A friend of mine who had RNY 6 months ago was having the same problem, her nutritionist told her to stop putting drink mix with aspartame in her water, she did and now she is fine. I hope this advice helps you as well!

If you had your gall bladder removed at the same time this is most likely the cause. Excess bile salts. If you do a low fat diet that should eliminate it.

I had waaaaay too much with an RNY. Not dependent upon what I was eating, but I think dependent upon urgent peristalstic contractions generated by the elimination of the bypass of the pyloric valve which normally regulates that. Terrible.

Can you explain this a little more?

The pyloric valve is pretty far away from where diarrhea comes out.  It controls peristalsis??

I never did have my gallbladder taken out. This last time it happened, I had just eaten a lot of ranch dressing. I had a lot more than usual. I had ranch the day before on a salad but only like half of what I had the day this happened.

I noticed it too if I eat hot wings. It's weird though. It seems like one day I can eat something and it's fine, the next it's not, like the ranch. I did eat quiet a bit of ranch though, and not so much salad. He He. It's so darn good! He He.

Anyway, I am leaning towards the too much fat at once idea. Since things like hot wings have a lot of fat and ranch does for sure too and those are the most recent times that come to mind.

Thanks for the advice. I will try to see if I can identify any triggers, if not I guess I will make a trip to see my doctor.

Thanks guys for your advice!!!!!!!

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned this yet, but with our high-protein low-everything else diet, we often don't get enough fiber in.  If you're greatly lacking sources of soluble fiber, that may cause it was well.  Try some BeneFiber for a few days, see if it helps you.

I seem to get constipated quiet a bit too so I did try some benefiber. I had no problems while taking it but my diarrhea only happens once in a while, so it's hard to say if it really helped or not.
The problem I have is that the benefiber is it is so expensive. I didn't even take what they recommended amount each day and it was like $10/week. Have you found any lower cost options? I guess I would spend that if I knew it would eliminate all of my bowel issues, he he. I guess I just didn't take it long enough to find out if it was fixing things. It was so expensive and I didn't notice my stool being much softer.

Most of the time it seems like I am passing rocks, then other times I get diarrhea, mixed with my rocks. He He. Oh my, the stuff we do to make this thing work. He He. Overall, it's not a huge problem and it certainly doesn't make me even kind of regret the surgery but I wish I could get a handle on the diarrhea issue at least. I would like to stop passing rocks too though. He He. Maybe if I could find a lower cost fiber supplement I could try that for a couple months and see how that does for me. Let me know if you know of anything I could try.

Thanks for your input!!!

Yeah, if you're swinging back and forth, you may find some relief from fiber.

I don't buy the brand name myself - I go to Target and buy their Up-and-Up brand Clear Soluble Fiber Supplment (125 doses).  It's pretty cheap.  100% wheat dextran.  I also take psyillum husk for insoluble fiber too - Metamucil makes expensive ones, I again buy the cheap Target brand.

You'll want to have fiber every day since we generally no longer eat enough.  I'm willing to bet if you try this for a week it'll have a positive result in keeping you regular.

If you're constipated, Miralax is great - again, pricey.  If you go to Costco, they have their version of Miralax for much, much less.

Good luck!
