My surgery is scheduled for the 25th and I told my family and they dont understand."you dont have to
do this you know", "i dont get it, im heavy and im happy." If it was so easy than why cant i do it. I dont understand. The people I love the most, make me feel the worst. "why dont you just work out?" I waited untill the week before so i wouldnt hear this and now i wish I would have just done it and not said anything.

Almost....

You hang in there!  Don't let their intimidation of your strength and determination to take control of your life change your mind!  If you don't take care of yourself, no one else will!  I've heard the same stuff from friends and some of my family members as well.  They don't live in this body, I DO!  They might be happy with themselves and feel great.  I DON'T!  They can continue on their path and I'll take mine!  They don't know how your feel, what you have to go through, or how difficult a decision this is.  Ignorance is bliss.....let 'em be happy......you just worry about making YOU happy and healthy!  I'm right there with ya!  My surgery is scheduled yet, but I'm almost finished with my pre-op tests and it will be soon.  I'm there for you and I'm sure there are MANY others on this board that are too!  You ROCK and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!!

Allow NO ONE to bring you down or 'make you feel the worst' ... embrace your decision and ROLL WITH IT .... Oftentimes people are concerned and scared ... if it helps you can explain the benefits if not just thank them for their opinion and move on ... if your mind is made up you are about to embark on a journey that is only YOURS ... with benefits for you and many others in your family after ... they will come around eventually...

Wishing you nothing but the BEST on your journey!!!

Thank you so much! Your right, I need to embrace it. I know I will be so much healthier. You look amazing and happy. That is how I want to be.

Treat it as people's way of expressing concern for you, and don't let them bring you down or knock you away from your goal! This is for you, this surgery, and it will make you healthier for sure.

Do what you need to do for you!!!

I hear ya honey! I'm scheduled for surgery this Tuesday and I thought my support system would be way better than it is! I was very upset and emotional about it but like others said, ultimately it's my decision, my life, my body. I came right out and told naysayers that what I need right now is support and encouragement and if all you have is negativity, keep it to yourself! I found out that most people against it are really just concerned for me. Education is the key. I tried to tell myself that they must care about me to have an opinion at all. I was so excited to share my 14lb pre-op weight loss from being on the liquid protein diet and one friend said "Why don't you just do that then?" I said, "Seriously, you expect me to never eat food again?!?!?" Ultimately, I believe if you have come this far you are interested in changing your life not just your pants size. If you are doing it for the right reasons, you will be successful. You are not alone, I promise you! Luvs!

It really makes you think about doing everything the right way so as not to have any problems that people can say I tried to get you not to do this to. My children and one friend tried to get me not to have my surgery and I know that they were scared. When I saw them at Christmas time, it would have been nice if they had noticed how much I have lost and that my jeans were now too big instead of so tight I could hardly breathe. But they said not a word, which makes me again vow I will lose to a healthier me and if they don't acknowledge it that is really ok.

Yes, I know they are scared too. I really know that I would feel the same way. Thank you. I do hear so many good things about wls. I know they will come around.

Hi: Ignorance is why friends and family are afraid of WLS. They are not stupid, just lack knowledge about what you're going to do. Fear sets in and people stop thinking straight.
Sometimes I don't like to believe this saying, but sometimes it's true, "a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' it's in the good book. What you're about to do is for you, that's all that matters.
