I use Sundown Perfect Iron and I just take vitamin C with it.  vitalady's is the only iron I know of that has enough C to help with iron absorption.  Other brands will put a little C in there but you need 200 mg C for every 30 mg iron and most brands don't have nearly that much.

Kelly-
I recently went to the dr and was diagnosed with restless leg syndrom. She told me to start taking Iron with Ferrous Gluconate. She also said my iron levels were good but could be better and that the iron she prescribed would be sufficient. I'm not sure tho because it's only  27mg per tab. what would you do? Do you think 27 mg twice a day is sufficient for a rny patient? Anyone have any ideas? Thats the only iron I'm taking right now, the other iron left me with burpies that tasted like...IRON! Yuk.
Thanks.
Kathleen

The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery says  menstruating women need 54-63 mg iron a day and everyone else needs 36 mg.  So if your iron isn't low right now, then that should be enough.  The only way to know for sure is to take it for a couple months and then get labs done again and compare the numbers.  If your iron at least stays the same, it's enough.  If your iron drops, then it's not quite enough.  When you get labs done, ask for a copy of the lab report so you can see all the numbers yourself.

Yeah, it's absorbable.  Did I spell that right?  It looks funny.

Thanks for thinking of my nephew.  He's doing about the same.
