Be very careful.   I was told not to have any carbonation, or anything with bubbles for the first year if ever.  Also not to even use a straw as you suck air with that.  It can cause pain.
Good luck with your decision.

My surgeons office gave me the exact same advice. I made it past the craving and heeded the warning. Thank you for the encouragement.

It might cause you pain or gas, and it might now.  Doesn't bother me at all.

It will not damage your pouch.

Will it "restart an addiction?"  I don't know.  Were you ever addicted to soda?  I wasn't.  I don't even like it much.  I drank some at a movie yesterday.  Didn't hurt me one bit.  I don't want to drink it every day, but if I did drink one soda a day, that would not hurt me either.

If you think it would hurt you, though, don't do it.

Hurt you no, give you uncomfortable gas probably.  I only now after nearly seven years drink a little coke zero now and again, I hate gas so thats why I avoid soda.

I am 10 years post op open VBG.  I was told to avoid carbonated drinks and if I absolutely had to drink one to open it and let it go flat before drinking.

I listened for about 8 years then decided I could drink Coke Zero.  Within a month I had gained 10 pounds.  I stopped the Coke Zero and the pounds came off.  Started back drinking them and on came the pounds.

Even though it is sugar free and/or calorie free doesn't always make it a good choice

Gwen. Your last sentence pretty much sums up my decision. if it isn't nourishing or good for me then I shouldn't mess with it.

I keep some selzer water in the house and mixed it with a little crystal lite now and then.  I don't drink cokes, etc. anymore and that allows me to control the carbonation.

I am glad to see you did not drink the soda.  Looks like it wont kill you, however, water gets to be a drag after a while. I from time to time have some canned iced tea that my son likes to drink, Often I end of leaving it out and it gets warm, then I toss it.
