Congrats! Very proud of you! I hope I'm that strong when I'm a few more months out and get some cravings of my own.

While diet soda may not hold any nutritional value, I don't believe the statement "Of course it would be bad." There are many rumors and myths floating around whether or not an RNY should drink soda. Most seem downright silly. Yes, the bubbles may make you burb, but you are not harming yourself by having a drink.

I drink DIET soda all day, every day, and have since early out.

How good's your self control?

Will this ultimately be a one-time thing, or are we talking you back to drinking pop every day in a month?  Food slopes sure are slippery.....

Good luck with your decision.

I feel your pain! I don't drink coffee - don't like it but also don't tolerate caffeine. Instead I used to have caffeine free diet coke in the morning. I've been eyeing my husband's coke, but I'm so fresh from surgery there's not even a chance I could drink it now.

I used to be a diet coke addict but have not had one in over 2 years.  I figure why start up something I am over?  I have enough other issues.....and the thought of drinking a flat diet coke doesn't really excite me.

Moreover my gas problems are bad enough as it is.  I certainly don't want to do anything to make it worse.

I am happy you have decided what you are going to do.  We usually know what the answer is before we ask a question like the one you ask.  Thank goodness on these boards most *****spond will attempt to be realistic rather than to give you a "feel good" response.

I am glad you decided not to have the pop chances are it would have made you very uncomfortable.  Food cravings last for a few moments only and you can fight them by distracting yourself.  In the beginning I kept my hands busy  I always loved to sketch and paint people from the time I could pick up a crayon ... so I started painting the avies of people I met on OH on canvas and sending it to them at no cost ever to anyone ... it was and is the best therapy ever ... or I would do my hair which I love to do anyway I love weaves or extensions or just wearing my own natural short mane .... or I would go online and look at different fashion trends and pick out the weirdest things that I would cut and sew for myself ... I never had to give in to any cravings and I very seldom have them now.

How Long Do Food Cravings Last?

How Long Do Food Cravings Last? Most food cravings last just 4 to 12 minutes – but they can feel like an eternity when you’re dieting. Besides eating every three to four hours and clearing your cupboards of junk food, the best way to avoid temptation is to distract yourself. Try these diversionary tactics:

Paint your nails To prevent smears and smudges, you’ll have to refrain from rummaging through the fridge for at least 20 minutes.

Apply a mask Chances are you won’t want to feed your face while it’s covered in a layer of clay.

Shopping Online Keep your hands busy by checking out your favorite stores. Buying clothes in your goal size is extra motivation to skip a snack. [source: Allure]

axley went over to a friends house in home doubt they ended up giving me a whole bunch of whey protein powder that they did not want. I made me a shake instead and surrounded myself in good company.

I drink diet soda all the time. In the beginning I went very slow.. My favorite is a fountain diet drink. It can take me a whole day to drink it. Sometimes you just gotta have one. When I was early out, the bubbles would make me uncomfortable. But it gets easier. Its not going to kill you and the only way to know is to try it out.

I have some diet coke from time to time. Pour it over ice and stir out the carbonation. I haven't had any ill effects from it.
