craving pop. will this hurt me if I have just 1
It all depends on what your doctor's protocol is with carbonation. Mine says no way Jose. It also depends on what you past history is with soda. Can you stop? You say you are self controlled right now but what has happened in the past? Will you be able to stop?
I personally have soda once in a while but you know what the carbonation really hurts my pouch so I stay away from it due to the bubbles. I will have a few sips now and then - that is maybe once every 6 or more months. I am not one of those that buys into letting the carbonation go flat because soda just is plain nasty when it is that way.
Only you can make the decision as to I you should have it or not and if you have the self control

She wants to know if it will hurt her. Whether or not it will hurt her does not depend on her doctor's protocol.
Whether it will be something she can't stop drinking, depends on her own history and other issues.
Whether it will cause gas or discomfort is an individual thing, not based on doctor's protocol.
Different docs have different opinions on carbonated drinks, but their protocol doesn't change the facts of whether it hurts or not.

I think learning we can survive cravings is really important.
Something one RNY veteran told me that I found very helpful is, "Hunger is not an emergency." Well, neither is a craving. It's not real fun to crave something and not give in to it, but then again it's not real fun to give in and later suffer discomfort or feel guilt about giving in, either.
Not giving in to a craving one time does not mean you can never have pop again. Maybe you'll choose to never have it again, but it's your choice and you get to make that choice over and over again. choosing not to give in to the craving now is not gonna kill you, no matter how tough it is at the moment.
And look what a valuable lesson you learned!
