Not that I'm getting any Smaller ( Wish that was the case ) ...but I really am noticing a few years post op that my hunger is GONE .

And I feel less and less compelled to eat when I'm NOT hungry ....

In past years I overate AND overexercised pretty much every day that my schedule allowed it . ( And i made time for exercise ... because it was a PRIORITY and a NECESSITY .to give me the confidence to pursue my job. )

Now I eat much less often for the wrong reasons ( boredom, to ameliorate frustration , just " automatically " when i sat down in front of the TV ) and much less in volume when I DO backslide .

The only thing I'm having a hard time with is disciplining myself to exercise regularly because my weight doesn't balloon when I don't .

How do YOU talk/ease yourselves into exercising for health and sanity after a layoff ?

Do U find Ure less hungry too ? Whats the next step food-intake wise ? I'd LOVE to go down a size and maintain it successfully ( so cut back my intake )

But I'm a VERY rebellious dieter and ... fear I would BINGE if I tried to exercise more portion control....

I only exercise by doing things that I like to do and consider fun.  Warer aerobics, line dancing, or a long walk in the park on a beautiful day.  I have never again been hungry after my surgery. I allow myself to eat anything, but usually just don't chose the starchy and sugary things. I don't dread the holidays because I am satisfied with a Quest bar.

My secret to losing or maintaining weight is that I always weigh myself on the same scale every morning.  That keeps me from being in denial.  I keep that number in my mind all day.  I mentally visualize the scale going to a lower number and try to make choices that will make that lower number appear.

Oh boy do I get hungry!!!   I love to eat and still keep the weight off... it's great to be hungry, then eat something really satisfying like a big fat bloody steak and a baked potato smothered in sour cream and butter.
I LOVE MY DS!!!!!!

I love fresh grown veggies!! They are sooo good!!  I use herbs and seasonings to add to their already good flavor.  I must admit I love a good steak too.  One of my favorite meals is a nice lean filet mignon with fresh steamed broccoli or asparagus.  Yummo!

I want to add that while eating loads of fat and meat for a normal person may be unhealthy and bad for your heart, it isn't for someone who has a DS.  They malabsorb fats, and the DS is actually good for high cholesterol and such.  They can eat like that and be perfectly healthy.  I am happy for them.  That is why there are different surgeries to choose from.  We all get to choose what is best for ourselves and our eating habits.

I'm very sorry for you that you have no hunger. No wonder you eat such a bland, tasteless diet.

Just for the record---if the info under your avatar is correct, you are NOT "a few years post op". You are TWO years and not quite three months post-op---in other words, you've just about reached the typical end-point of the so-called "honeymoon phase" after the RNY. Things may change a LOT before you are actually "a few years" post-op.

I was so admiring of your garden pics recently Mini - I try but I often fall short and the weeds tend to overtake.  I end up buying a lot more from the local farmer's mkt than I actually grow.  I struggle to get my protein in because I don't like animal protein much.  And the only times I have barfed since my surgery have been times when I ate too much fat (it does not it well in my tummy).   Sometimes even p-nut butter will make me sick because of the fat in it, but it is usually only milk fat or animal fat that does me in.

I have found if I eat a balanced diet (with enough protein and enough green veggies), I don't have much hard-to-manage hunger.  (Eggs, yogurt and soy are my main protein sources.)   I still (after 2 and a half years) get the wanna-eats when I am angry, but I am slowly learning to manage that through meditation and some visualization exercises.

Regarding exercise:  I bribe myself.  It's the only time I let myself listen to my ipod!   I've been working on not letting myself watch tv unless I am exercising, but I haven't managed to do that yet.  We're all a work in progress, I guess!

I get hungry one week a month, like ravenous crazy hungry (can you guess which week that is? LOL), and the rest of the month I literally forget to eat.

Food no longer controls me, and it's the best feeling ever.
