Seeking lap band stories

I have had both the Lap-Band and the VSG.  I would recommend the VSG hands down over which is better to live with.  Even when I had my band and it was working the way "it was supposed to" it was much more difficult to eat with.  My VSG operates just like a regular stomach with way less room.

My suggestion to you is to visit all the forums (including the revision forum) and listen to people's experiences.

When I was deciding on WLS I was going to get the lap band also I am happy with the VSG because My good friend was afraid of the more permanent surgeries and she got the lap band.  She initially lost 65 pounds after less than a year she gained it all back and then some.  She is so disappointed in herself and the only way she can eat is not to get fills and even then she finds herself purging her food out. She is very unhappy. I try to tell her about revision but she doesn't want anymore surgery.

I'm telling you that to say please do your research and give all the surgeries an equal amount of attention. If you are set on getting lap band, make sure you get all the facts about after care. Talk to people at your WLS clinic that has had the band ask them how they are doing. make support group meetings if they have them and listen to the band stories.

Good Luck sweety I know you will make the right choice for you!

Post and let us know how you are doing

" I wanted the band because it was less evasive and I didn't think the idea of chopping up my body parts was for me".

I think you mean "invasive"???

Anyways the Lap Band is for you if you don't mind having multiple surgeries, ending up with your insides mutilated by the band and then having it chopped up when you need a revision .

The Sleeve is as awesome as it gets!

Best,
Leila

Sorry, can't offer a good story.  I had mine in 2008 and would try to dissuade anyone from getting it.  Its just too much of a shot in the dark.  I hoped I would be one of the lucky ones but I hoped wrong.  I'll be pursuing a revision DS.  Should have done it to begin with.  (I also started at 250 - lowest weight has been 225 but that was with Medifast.)  Sorry.  Hope you come to the conclusion that's best for you.

Good luck to you with your DS revision.

Saying that the band is a shot in the dark is exactly right. Everyone thinks going into it that they'll luck out... but more of us end up finding out just how unlucky we can be. Myself included.

I  hope everything goes well for you, kmg9122.

I think you're gonna be a skinny mini! And I'm a little envious.
