I'm at Goal ~ Will my Goals keep Changing?

I've been at my goal for over 6 months. Now I want to lose more.. I've never read anyone here say they want to do the same. I do plan to make that next goal within the next 6 months. lose 20 lbs more. Will my goals keep on changing down the line, will my goals stop?  I don't want to become obsessive with my goals..My ex once told  me i have an obsessive personality.. I believe I don't have an obsessive personality because I never made it to goal the first 18 months P O..

Has anyone else been through the same? thanks for your time..Peace And

Wendy-who set your first goal? You? Your surgeon? How old are? How tall? How "reasonable" will this "number" be to maintain" for the "long haul". All these factors will rally come into play in the months/years ahead, when your brain and mirror try to catch up and do battle with the scale...

I may be presumptive here-but I bet you do NOT need to lose 20 lbs BELOW your goal...weight wise..BUT--you can certainly have OTHER goals-and you SHOULD, or you could easily fall into nasty old habits..and I absolutely know of which I speak, having regained, and having to relose 70 lbs..please do NOT do what I did-it's just too dang hard...

How about an exerise goal? Most 5Ks (3.2 miles) have walk/run catagories, and are run for charity. They usually cost $20-30, and you get a tee shirt/fun/memories/sense of satisfaction out of the deal. Training can be as intense as you want it be. Walking around the block a great way to start. www.coolrunning.com is an all inclusive website. it has links for "beginners" and the "couch to 5K plan" Walking is fabulous for beginners of all ages and fitness levels. I'll never maKe the Olympics, but those two half-marathon medals, hanging on my wall, where I can see them everyday, make me FEEL like a champion!

I am guessing (hoping) you set your 1st goal above your IBW?

If your goal was set high, and you find yourself at goal but still physically needing to lose more weight, it is normal to adjust your goal.   If you are still in plus sizes etc.

If your weight is considered overweight or ideal you may need to re-think losing more weight.  Size 10-12 is  normal (not 2-4) esp if you have lost a lot of weight.

I had to adjust my goal weight higher.  It was originally #135 -midrange of a "normal" BMI.  When I hit #150 I was wearing a size 4 and was literally all bones (& skin)  If I wore a V-neck you could see every rib- check my profile I posted a pic.

So my goal ended up being #150- in the overweight catagory for my height no less but everytime I dropped to #145 or lower I looked like hell!

If you like goals change them to exercise goals they are safer than weight loss goals.

An excellent idea Gina. I knew two heads were better than one.. Exercise goals. Funny you mention it. Or i didnt think of it that way, I was just telling my27 year old daughter to come join me in playing volleyball again. I played for over 6 years in my 40's and all thru all my heart surgeries, took about a 9 month to 1 year break  because of arthritis in my right elbow.. I took a new hobby that is riding horses, to keep up on the horse i started taking aleve and helped , told myself i needed to get back exercising, I use to play volleyball 2 times a week for 4 hours and walking everyday 3 miles daily. . Amazingly I have not regained any weight. I have changed my eating habits, I did that long before wls. Started my change after my open heart surgery. The Portion part i could not control.. thanks again..  Happy Trails..Wendy

WENDY-I've been a nurse for 30+ years-I noticed the "heart/7 stents" part of your siggy line and should have mentioned it. OBVIOUSLY you will check with your heart doctor before doing any exercise you haven't done before, but I'd feel guilty if I didn't come out and out it writing..ya know??

I've always been told the "key" to exercise is finding an activity YOU enjoy. I say if volleyball and horses are YOUR thing--then GO FOR IT!! Anything that gets you out and moving is a GOOD thing, IMHO!

Please update, when you can, and let us know how it's going. I guarantee you there are peeps reading, who are in exactly the place you are in, wondering the same things you are wondering, who will LEARN, from YOU!

I made it to goal, maintained for about a year, then gained back 12 pounds.

I am setting a new goal after the holidays for about 10 pounds of loss.  A goal is a wish with a date attached to it.  Without the date it is just a wish.  Goals make life interesting and more exciting.  As long as you are aiming for a healthy weight, then go for it.

my first goal was to be able to buy clothes at walmart. Met that. My second goal was to hit two hundred pound**** that. Now my goal is to weight one fifty. Don't think I'll ever hit it but I have noticed that it's nice to have a goal to work towards. We are always moving, if not moving forward then we are moving backwards. I choose to move forwards.

Good luck!

Met my first goal, met my second goal, met my surgeons goal. Now I have a new goal!
