What happened to DianaCox?

You know who blocks Diana? People who don't value real research. They say "I'm better than you because my doctor says so" and she posts factual studied - real, peer-reviewed research studies - and they get butthurt.

I love that word, btw, butthurt. Great internet term.

As a research librarian, I've always found Diana's commitment to research to be outstanding. I would hope that more people could learn from her, but the dumbing down of OH continues. Instead of Diana's helpful advice backed with real, peer-reviewed studies, we can concentrate on the Daily Devotionals so that we can have fluffy rainbows help us maintain our health and weight loss.

Not true - I value research too.  I just didn't need a dog chewing on my leg with verbal abuse.  I'm sorry she's gone, but I didn't need the attacks.  I know she was helpful to many.

See.. again.. this is what I am just not understanding...

my point of even posting on this thread, as it sounds like was Linda's, was to say to OH.. "yeah, we blocked Diana, yeah, we found her delivery method to be somewhat abusive.. BUT, that is what block is for... and to vote against the banning of her...   to say that as adults, we might not get along with everyone, but as adults, there is a way we can choose who we interact with etc.. and while she is not my cupt of tea, I acknowledge how valuable she is to others... etc..."

see, instead of taking my message as it was intended.... and saying "yeah.. see.. even the people who might not have cared to interact with her don't want her banned..." it turns into personal attacks.. (butthurt really?)....

So, you are basically driving away a sector of the OH population who are trying to support the main point.... which is that she shouldn't have been banned.....

I haven't seen anyone in this thread personally attack you, though I HAVE seen you jump in to reply to more than one post that was NOT in direct response to you and assume they WERE about/directed at you.

FWIW, bailey never said those were the ONLY people who blocked Diana, yet that seems to be how everyone who wants to be offended is reading into it. Keep that in mind when you get upset about people not taking your message as intended. Pot = kettle.

as for me jumping in.. I never said I was attacked or that this was directed at me.....

why is it okay for you or anyone else to "jump in" and post your opinion in defense of what you think or believe... but its not okay for me?  I was trying to defend Linda's post and say that I believe her point was the same as mine... etc etc...

and I am by no means upset... I am just trying to say that we can talk about this and the actual point of the thread, rather than breaking down into insults etc...

if someone like Linda has the courage to come on this thread and post her feelings, and still support the original point of the thread ... can you or anyone else honestly not see why it would be offensive to be told this:

"You know who blocks Diana? People who don't value real research. They say "I'm better than you because my doctor says so" and she posts factual studied - real, peer-reviewed research studies - and they get butthurt."

and why is it not okay for me to jump in and defend someone?.... but its okay for people to say whatever they want, however they want, irregardless of common courtesy, as long as its on the side you agree with?

Or you could just stir up some **** and then deactivate...

and use words like "irregardless." *cringe*

I maintain that the quote you supplied in bold still does not, and never did, say that those were the ONLY people who blocked. People are reading that into it themselves and defending against something that was not said.

And now I will stop talking to myself :P

Not necessarily.

They just might find her style of communication incompatible with their own.  That's why we have the Block button.

Edit to add: Nothing I say below should be interpreted to suggest I am saying she should have been banned. I'm not saying that, I am responding to the issue of why some folks blocked her.

"You know who blocks Diana? People who don't value real research. They say "I'm better than you because my doctor says so" and she posts factual studied - real, peer-reviewed research studies - and they get butthurt."

Not so. I never blocked Diana because the one time I politely challenged her on the effectiveness of her communication style she responded in a civil way, but I did leave threads when I saw the fur starting to fly.

My thought, the one I expressed to her personally, is that she IS passionate about getting the word out on the DS and educating people. Yet she often chose a communication style that was a complete turn-off to a great many people. And she has said she chooses this communication style on purpose. I personally think her communication style drove away far more folks than it reached.

You can say "their loss", but that sort of doesn't jibe with the image of someone who is passionate about getting the word out.

Not that I would be happy that OH would ever block people but.........She did speak of stuff that was second hand information that held no truth and for this reason is why I  personally blocked her.

There's a BIG difference between you personally blocking someone you don't care to interact with, and OH banning someone so that NO ONE can interact with her.
