What happened to DianaCox?

Regardless of whatever side of the issue you are on., Diane is a very capable adult who can be trusted to wage her own battles without our assistance. The threats and bullying by others surrounding her deactivation are counterproductive to all on OH, regardless of your opinions. The ONLY reason there is an OH is because of the advertising dollars, from surgeons, products and services. The more vitriol spewed by members, whether it is regarding her deactivation or other issues, the less companies are willing to advertise on OH.

Don't personalize business. Diane is a savvy person. She took calculated risks all of the time. Sometimes risks backfire.

The battle waged to get her back is the reason OH may not want to allow her to return. If everyone just shut up, she could be allowed to return quietly. But to make demands on OH, when one has no leverage with OH, is akin to a child having a tantrum. And the parent (OH) knows better than to empower a child having a tantrum by giving into their demand.

Peace!

I take it from your account date that you weren't around the last time Diana was banned. They did not allow her to come back quietly. But, once OH realized that her banning was a moderator's personal vendetta, rather than for the betterment of OH, the moderator was gone and Diana was back.

And, BTW, Diana getting banned was not the result of a calculated risk on her part. It was the result of information OH moderators received (and didn't like) from places OTHER than OH forums.

You are right, OH is a business, and business is supported by advertisers. How many advertisers would advertise here if the site became a graveyard because people were sick of censorship, invasion of trust issues, and high-handedness on the part of moderators who are not looking out for the best interests of the people on the site?

Isn't that OH's choice, not yours, to make?

Advertising rates are based on the number of hits a website gets. The more controversy, the more hits---until, of course, your controversy reaches he point where members are leaving in droves. Most advertizers don't actually read the forums, so they have no idea of posters' opinions, just how frequently they click on posts and/or ads.

Because she's sparked a lot of controversy, Diana's put a lot of money in OH's pockets over the years.

While that may or may not be true, only OH has access to the stats on how many members stay or leave.

And, it is OH's decision to make as they own the company.  They are entitled to make those decisions, even if they erred in doing so.

Bump.

Sadly, there is a post today requesting help with insurance.  A post Diana certainly could have and would  have helped with, regardless of surgical choice.  But she can't.

You all probably already have seen this, but it looks like baileymouse has been deactivated.  I just saw that when reading an old post she had responded to.

How many people have been deactivated in the last couple of days??  Are they being deactivated for TOS violations or something else?

Nutshell:

Lost 140 lbs with VSG. (Hooray!!)

got pregnant  (yeaaaa!)

got cancer (boooo!)

regained 40 lbs.   (grrrr!)

In summary: Alive & Grateful.

OH has the right to ban any member for any reason.

But that doesn't mean that banning members is necessarily a good idea.

In my opinion, banning Diana was a stupid decision, which diminished the quality of this site.
