Gastric revision; Gastrogastric fistula
My doctor ordered an upper GI and an esophagogram for me because I have gained a significant amount of weight although I have been exercising and complying with doctors since the initial gastric bypass surgery back in 2006. Still, I am constantly hungry.
The result of the test indicated that my food in going into my old stomach rather than the new pouch. The doctor also said that the results of the Upper GI indicated that my new pouch is in great condiction with no stretching or dialation of the new pouch. My stoma is also in great condition which reflects the fact that I did nothing to undermine my weight loss or health. I exercise everyday and eat right. Furthermore, the Upper GI indicated that there were no deformities or malfunctions other the gastrogastric fistula which I have concluded was not caused by me. I am rather unclear about what happened to cause the gastricgastro fistula but there is no doubt that I did all that I was told to do on an ongoing and consistent basis.
I do not understand why I am being asked to satisify a list of requirements before I can receive the surgery. I did what the doctor ordered but after more that 5 years of weight loss success, the new pouch stopped working. I am beginning to suffer all of the health issues that were under control after I lost more than 100 pounds.I have gained 53 pounds since December 2010 and I am not looking or feeling good about my health issues.
Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions for me as it relates to overcoming this complex set of cir****tances? Please advise? I don't know where else to turn at this point? Please help me? I am going back to the doctor soon and I need help to properly address this matter with him. I don't even know where to begin?

Nothing you did caused the fistula, and there's nothing you could have done to prevent it. Did your surgeon transect your pouch when he did your original surgery? (Sometimes, if it's not transected, the staple line can open up and create a fistula-like passage.)
Is it your insurance company that's requiring these things, or your surgeon? I suspect it's your insurance company, and if so, my best advice is to just suck it up and do what they ask, unless you want to get a lawyer involved.
