DOUBLE HOLIDAY HERE AND THERE... ITS MOTHER'S DAY
WOOT WOOT ... I GET TO CELEBRATE TWICE!!!!
Mother’s Day in Panama
Today is Mother’s Day in Panama. On a lot of holidays that celebrate people you love, you’ll hear people wonder why we only celebrate mothers, fathers, grandparents and our significant other only one day a year – why wouldn’t we celebrate those people every day?
Well, if you visit or have a Panama vacation home, at least you will have a chance to celebrate twice.
In Panama it’s celebrated on December 8, the same day as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This date was suggested in 1930 by the wife of Panama’s President Florencio Harmodio Arosemena, and it was passed as Law 69 in the same year.
According to other accounts, the Rotary Club of Panama asked in 1924 that Mother’s Day be celebrated on May 11 to honor mothers, but politician Aníbal D. Ríos changed the proposal so that it would be held on December 8, and he made it into a national holiday.
Some of the best memories about this day was all the activities celebrating mother's and/or mother figures in our live but what I liked best was that we all got together in all the schools and made collections of all sort of layette items ... then we would sort them all out and make these beautiful layette baskets that the Women's Committee would gather and would then distribute to ALL the mothers who had babies born on Mother's Day ...in the public hospitals and health centers and the remaining baskets were distributed to the poor and to those in need ... it was AWESOME... KIND OF LIKE THESE KIDS HERE...
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY ALL MOTHERS ON THIS DAY EVERYWHERE ... SHOOT LETS CELEBRATE OUR DAY EVERY DAY I SAY...
Now you wonder why I love love love making bassinets and layette baskets and giving them away in outreach ... I DO NOT SELL! Making these makes me feel for a minute that I am back home ... and that my own mom who taught us this is alive and well ... and on el día de las madres I wish she were here to give her a big hug ... but she is not ... RIP mom ... and I am missing homesick for back home where my family still is... oh hell it makes me feel good to have these memories period! GIVE and it shall be given back in good measure ... YES!!!
At my biggest I loved my crafts.... and today I STILL DO! because I am still me ...
