Thanksgiving and what should you eat?
Suzanne,
glad that your method works for you.
As RNY - we can't drink with meals. Even drinking right before meals - may not be a good idea. We need to wait 30-60 min after a meal to drink....
The pouch (instead of a small stomach) does not process the food the same way that your small sleeve does. RNY - we absorb all the carbs... but even a few years late r- we may malabsorb the proteins (I do) and some fats. Some food may create a problem - and many RNY people may have issue with raw veggies and raw fruits. (not all - but some). and even taking beano or digestive enzymes may not help much.. (i.e. I can't eat raw carrots - they get "stuck" every time.).
We do need to eat small meals every 2-3 hrs due to reactive hypoglycemia. Making ourselves "full" may actually cause a trouble like stretching the stoma (the opening between the pouch and small intestines) or the pouch itself.
and so on. I mentioned in my other replay - that eating small amounts as natural as possible foods may be best for RNY. Lots of proteins, good fats, cooked veggies, some raw veggies (when tolerated) etc.

Somebody apparently decided this statement, which I will repeat, is against the TOS:
I understand where you are coming from, but I intend to eat lavishly. That's the fun of this day.
And it's exactly what I did, DS style: standing rib roast, smoked pork loin, TWO smoked turkeys (one brined in apple cider and stuffed with fruit, one brined in white wine and stuffed with herbs), bacon wrapped scallops and deviled eggs for appetizers. Roasted Brussels sprouts, roasted root veggies, mac and cheese, and a beautiful crusty made from scratch heavenly roll hot from the oven soaked in butter.
It took me about three hours to eat and I loved every single bite.
Oh yeah: the best tiramisu EVER for dessert.
(And did I mention I didn't have to cook much--just veggies and deviled eggs--OR clean up?)

THIS is against the TOS???
Sounds to me like someone got all butt-hurt because you're eating better than she is. (*grin*)

"Just a bite or two" of whatever works well for some people, but not so much for others. When I was losing weight, just a bite or two of anything very carby or sugary would have only triggered cravings for more, and I would battle those cravings for the following DAYS. For me, when I was in weight loss mode, I had to stay just as strict on holidays as on normal days (and "strict" doesn't mean I didn't enjoy my food - I still had PLENTY of delicious options while eating low in carbs and high in fat) for continued progress/success.
This year, I'm pregnant, so all bets were off :P

Hi
Thanks for the education on the RNY. I do know a lot of this. Those of us who have the sleeve do not drink when we eat either. I also stay away from anything that has many carbs. They are not good for me. I work on having GOOD carbs and that consists of Whole Grain--not whole wheat but whole grain carbs. I watch the amount of sugar I also have each day. It is a LIFESTYLE change not a diet. So it is easy for me to follow. There is NO WLS that you can ever go back to eating how you used to eat. You have to make that lifestyle change for ANY type of WLS.
I wish you great success. You are in control of the food instead of the food controlling you.
Have a Happy Holiday Season
