Something to think about...
Mimi,
I went back and read through your original thread and all of the responses including my own and I have to tell you that everyone was pretty darned friendly and SUPPORTIVE. I think the problem is that because everyone gave you very clear reasons to doubt your decision and possibly take a little more time to find a better option, you became emotional and "saw" what you wanted to see in order to have an excuse to not "hear" what you needed to hear. We are all members of this forum for the very same reasons you have listed in your thread here, we all wanted or want those things for ourselves too, and completely understand the emotion and the pain behind your statements. However due to our experiences and the experiences of those before us, we might have some really important information that does not always agree with another persons thoughts or decisions. I am truly sorry if you really feel that the caring persons on here telling you the TRUTH was not supportive becasue I can tell you with 100% certainty that nothing could be further from the truth. If you are willing to truly open your heart and ears to take in the advice being offered here you will likely find that what you are considering is really not your "only option". There are many charitable and/or research type programs that you could look into. For starters if keeping your medication stocked until you can look through all of your options for WLS is a problem, I can tell you that pretty much ALL pharmaceutical companies have programs to donate medications to persons such as yourself in need of the meds without a way to pay for them. All you have to do is go to their website or get their number from your pharmacy and apply for it. Not a solution to all of your problems but would certainly make it a little easier for you until you can check out some of the other options for your weight loss.
As I stated in my response to your original thread:
Best of luck to you no matter what decision you make in the end. :-)

Hi thanks for your response. I really appreciate it. Okay first off I do apologize for making it seemed like some of you don't care or aren't supportive at all. I didn't mean it that way. I even said I am thankful and grateful for every response whether negative or positive. I just stated that even though my decision might not be the best one, I just wanted support still. I didn't want to be judged on my decision if I still ended up choosing the doctor I had already chosen. That was all I meant. I love everyone I have met on this site. I am thankful that she pointed out that the doctor had some negatives. It gave me a reason to search deeper. I am going to look into the pharmacies and other information you have stated. Thanks to everyone who posted a reply, and once again I am sorry if you all felt that I didn't agree or thought you all weren't supportive. I didn't want to come across that way. I just wanted to still have support even if I continued with the doctor I had chosen. The friend I thought I had don't support it at all and thinks I shouldn't do it. I don't have many friends because I have always been quiet and shy. I just don't want the friends and people I have met on here to turn their backs on me either because of a decision I make. So thanks once again and God bless.

Hey Mimi,
I'm late to the party but I just wanted YOU to know that while people are trying to knock you out from in front of the train (a little dramatic I know) we still still support you if you decide to stand there anyway. Ultimately it is YOUR life to do with it as you please.
We'll support you through the preop, the liquid, the this the that...just head the folks trying to knock you out from in front of the train and be blessed on your journey!!

I was a self pay that went all the way to India from Seattle for a good price/surgeon. 30 freakin hours of flight each way. I get it.
But I can find a good surgeon in the US or other countries, for the same price that the butchers charge. Bad surgeons are not those that just have the run of the mill complications that most surgeons deal with sometimes, but can have horrible things happen often from negligence or lack of skill. And there ARE surgeons with 0 death rates, and they are not only the ones that charge top dollar.
It isn't necessary to take extra risk to get a good price, and even if it were, no bargain could be worth messing up your body or dieing for. You have better options.

Hey Mimi, I notice you are from Monroe, La. I am from Ruston and had my surgery (sleeve) done by Dr. Zizi in West Monroe and he was $12,900. I would highly recommend him. He is an excellent surgeon and his office staff is great. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions or just want to talk. Good luck. Linda

Dear Mimi,
Please be VERY careful. You are in a very vulnerable spot re making this decision to have WLS in another country.
Research I did years ago revealed many WLS pts chose to have the surgery despite a chance of dying on the table. They were desperate for help and didn't always know what they were getting into.
What will happen if you encounter problems and need follow up care in the U.S.? You will need life-long care re WLS including lab tests, supplements, etc.
BTW, I had WLS in 85' and at least 6 more major operations resulting in a take down in 89'. I have 1/8th of a stomach left.
While waiting, please try attending free Overeaters Anonymous groups.
Good luck with what you do decide to do.

Hi everyone. How was everyone's Monday? Well I wanted to write a post and to say thank you for everyone's responses. I just wanted to say that I do cherish my life, and that I am not going to put my life at risk for a surgeon that isn't up to par. I think my initial post or other posts I have put within this thread might seem as if I am willing to risk my life with a surgeon who isn't qualified. Well I am not. That is why I asked for others advice who have had him, and I was doing my research. Thanks to many of the replies I have started to look into other surgeons such as Dr. Garth Davis in Houston, TX and another surgeon someone mentioned to me in my area. If I have to raise the money on my own, I will. But I won't put a price on my life. Thanks once again and I appreciate all of you. God bless always.
