As I research the 2 surgeries, I see quite a few RNY's who wish they had gone for the DS.....but I havent seen any DS patients who wish they had gone with the RNY.

Anyone fall in this catagory?

What made you regret the DS?

Nope, I'm in the other category, RNY *****vised to a DS. You hear about a lot of revisions to a DS, very few away from one.

When I see that someone has actually chosen the RNY over the DS, it's often because RNY was the only one covered for them, or they just didn't know there were options. Surgeons that don't do some procedures only inform patients about the surgeries they do sell.

There are many ways in which the DS has an advantage over the RNY, but not the other way around.

I don't think you're going to find any. My answer is, obviously, no - I resisted a revision from my VBG for 15 years because there was no way in h@ll I was having an RnY!

This is THE brilliant question that we usually have to convince people to ask.

The answer is along the lines of

But seriously, I think I've encountered one rather unstable woman who thought MAYBE she had the DS but it was from a surgeon none of us had heard of and she was vague on the details...and who insisted she wanted an RnY.

You've asked the million dollar question...there are no DSers on the Revisions board.  I will not say that the DS is "the best."  What is "best" for you is a subjective call.  But it is the most effective and that's just from the numbers in peer reviewed literature.

Here's the OH Revisions board:

After eight years, there is NOTHING about the DS I regret.

However, there are two with those sentiments whom I can think of:

LadyTaz admits she had an INFERIOR DS with an INFERIOR surgeon, and inadequate follow up (their fault and her fault - she has discussed this many times in the past).  She allowed the SAME surgeon to convert her to RNY.  I cannot fathom why, no matter how many times she explains it, but there you go.

Batwingsman is notoriously non-compliant - a carb-devouring disaster by his own reports.  He has regained a substantial amount of weight, has been fired from at least one job and called to the carpet at another one for stinking up his workplace, has been banned from using the bathroom at his place of business and been required to go out of the building where he works to a fast food restaurant to poop (and reload, undoubtedly).  He has posted about thinking perhaps an RNY would have been a better choice for him.  I seriously doubt it - he would probably be over his starting weight by now with an RNY.

The DS isn't fool-proof.  A real fool can really screw it up.
