"Gastric" means "having to do with the stomach."

Lately, I've seen several posts where people are asking--or telling--that they got or didn't get or want or don't want "the gastric."  There is no "the gastric."

All weight loss surgeries--other than maybe lobotomies, the one I still need--are gastric:
the adjustable gastric band;
the roux en y gastric bypass;
the gastric sleeve (vertical or otherwise); and,
even the DS--aka biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch--which some surgeons call the "gastric resection with duodenal switch" or "gastric reduction with duodenal switch."

So, when you ask, "should I get the gastric or the band"...someone who just had VSG--the gastric sleeve--may think you mean HER surgery and give you lots of incorrect information.

You are, of couse, free to call it "the big bum and gut go away procedure" if that makes your boat float...this is just to let you know how OTHERS may be reading it.

Whenever someone says" the gastric" or "the surgery" I always assume RNY.

I thought the switch was an intestinal lobotomy *grin*

I understand YOU went with The Drastic

(in calling it that my boat remains on dry land but I'm getting a lovely breeze up my skirt)

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

it's a work in progress, mostly getting the pets all settled. one dog was apparently waiting to poop until he could go behind the garage at our former house but after three days and plenty of walking he went anyway. looking very sheepish, or do I mean hangdog.

thanks for asking!    I miss you guys!!

Why are you going trying to be all smart on us? Some of our heads might explode, or even implode.

People who call RNY the gastric is a pet peeve of mine. Just like people who loose weight.

LMAO this brings me waaaay back...
I was in the waiting room anticipating my first (group) visit with my surgeon, when a woman among us said outloud "is anyone here considering gastric" I remember two people raising their hands and saying yes...  another was there for the band...  the group turned and looked at me and I respsond...  "Neither of those, I'm considering Gastric Bypass" they looked at me like I had four heads!!     Gastric = wicked pet peeve!!!
I've been declared a slow loser - and couldn't be happier!!
 I  can,  I  will.
