XPOST: B*TCHFest! Who's in this week??
School secretary: Mrs. X, your son missed the bus.
Me: Okay, I'll be right there to get him.
Secretary: It's very inconvenient for us when he misses the bus.
Me: I understand. I'll speak with him.
Secretary: You need to make sure he doesn't miss the bus again.
Me: This is the first time he's missed it.
Secretary: I can't be dealing with kids who miss the bus.
Me: I said I'll speak with him about it.
Secretary: You make sure he doesn't miss it again.
Me: He's eight years old - what do you want? Should I drive to school every afternoon and put him on the bus personally? Kind of defeats the purpose of having a BUS, doesn't it?
Grrrrr....

Excuse me, isn't getting him on the bus at their end THEIR job?
I would have had an entirely different conversation with that school secretary.

You would think so, wouldn't you?
Honestly, the kids' teachers are wonderful, but most of the administration/staff are kind of nuts. Once I got this call from the asst. principal about my (at that time) kindergartener. She started blessing me out about his "anti-social behavior" and that he needs "anger management" counselling because of this terrible thing he did. I heard "anti-social" and I'm thinking that he must have gotten into a terrible fist fight or something. Finally I interrupt her ranting to ask what, precisely, happened. Well, as it turned out, the kids at his table had been teasing him about something, so when snack time came he retaliated. Snack was a big pretzel rod, so my baby gave every kid's pretzel rod a big lick so they wouldn't be able to eat them. (Really awful antisocial behavior, isn't it?) Well, I apologized for his behavior and suggested that they try to stay on top of the teasing to prevent incidents from occurring, but honestly the whole pretzel-licking thing to get back for the bullying struck me as pretty funny and I started to snicker just a little. This old biddy just about lost it - started literally screaming at me over the phone. I asked her if she had considered some anger managment counselling for herself. Then I called her boss.
P.S. Aforementioned child is a straight A student with perfect conduct marks every quarter from 1st grade on - not a little monster - he's the uber-responsible sweet kid every teacher loves having in class.

I'm going to try that licking trick the next time I'm in a jewelry store with my bf.
