I had RNY 2 years ago and have always had horrible irregular menstral cycles. After the RNY I was able to get pregnant and gave birth to my daughter 5 months ago, since them my OBGYN predicted my menstrual cycle was going to return with a vengence and put me on birth control pills. Before my pregnancy I had tried the Nuvaring which made my uterus prolapse so I was no longer able to use it then I tried the Ortho Evra Patch which worked well except for the headaches and rash due to my terribly sensitive skin however this was my favorite method. Unfortunately my insurance will no longer pay for the patch and I'm unemployed. I need to mention I have a latex allergy and have issues with condoms as well. So we're trying pills with no luck I've tried 4 different kinds of pills and they've raised my blood pressure and made me bleed for 3 months straight. My OBGYN has stated due to my RNY I may not be able to properly absorb these pills and is taking me off them. So depo was mentioned and he said that would make me gain serious weight. So all thats left is an IUD or abstinance which I don't think my husband would appreciate lol. I want more children just not this soon. Have any of you had any problems after surgery with this and if so what do you suggest.
Thanxs, Amy

Does the depo provera shot always cause significant weight gain?  Or is that just a possible side effect?  Because you could try it and see how you do with it.  If you begin to gain you could just not get another shot.

what about a diaphragm or cervical cap?

Are you and your husband hoping to have more children at some point?  If not, a vasectomy works well!  My partner had one and it's a very simple procedure.

I have mentioned the depo to 3 different drs. and they've all said no you'll gain weight. I was also told by my obgyn that the depo is a every 3 month shot but the medicine can stay in your body making it impossible to get pregnant for up to a year. Yes we do want more children in the future if possible but it took me 8 years to conceive my daughter so I'm leary of anything extensive. Thanks for the response.

I had all kinds of problems with birth control (hence 5 kids) and the only one I could tolerate, and the best I found, was the IUD.  I had the 5 year one and after a while I barely had a period.  Got it out and was pregnant the next month.

An IUD is at the top of my list now I just worry about side effects and possible infertility going to get a consult with obgyn about it.

Maybe I was lucky but I had zero side effects.  I forgot I had it.  No more PMS, no more cramps.  I had it for a few years and like I said, once it was out I was immediately pregnant.  And no other birth control would work for me (like I said 5 kids).

I can only tell you my story with the IUD.  I've had 2.  The first was after my son was born.  It was a copper IUD put in, in Germany.  I had it taken out 3 years later and was pregnant 3 days later!!  The doc had recommended waiting a month but we're quick!  Now I have the mirena which does have a mild level of hormones so it is really recommended to wait 30 days so you have a chance to build up a good lining in your uterus.  But after that it should be all systems go.

My daughters 5 months old I'm gonna ask my obgyn about an iud I'm a little worried that maybe my body doesn't like hormones is why its refused every birth control I've tried.
