Reactive Hypoglycemia and dealing with it
Be careful! I have had 2 hypoglycemic episodes that ended me in the ambulance to the ER. Luckily I wasnt alone for either cause I am not sure where I would be today! Since last weekend I now live by myself and it scares the **** out of me everytime I go to bed cause that is when it happens. I do take glucose tablets so I have added an extra one now. My lowest was 42.
Good luck and be careful.

My lowest was 38....very scary. For the past 2 yrs, I am following an "eat every 2-3 hrs" plan, and that has seemed to keep any hypoglycemic episodes more "predictable" for me....If I eat a refined carb on an empty stomache, I am guaranteed to have a drastic drop in my blood sugar. I have also become very sensitive to the signs my body gives me when my blood sugars are dropping----my lips/lower face/tongue tingle, I get "auras' in my vision, I get very "air-headed" and start slurring my words, my thinking gets fuzzy----if you can learn what happens to your body before your sugar drops too low, you can usually stop the drop by eating something asap. scary stuff!!!
Do you eat anything besides having coffee? Your reaction may be due to the need for protein and
complex carbs for your breakfast.
If you don't like eating solids early in the AM, or if you're like me and have never been one for eating
breakfast, try drinking a protein/coffee mix. Experiment with putting chocolate protein powder into
your morning caffeine jolt. Just be careful as if the coffee is too hot it will clump the protein into
something really unpleasant.
Good luck!

I also have had problems with Reactive Hypoglycemia, I have found that keeping 2 rolls of Smarties Candies in my purse works great. They are small and don't take up much room, don't melt fit easily in your pocket and have a really long shelf life. I have gotten used to the way that I feel when my Blood Sugar starts to drop. If I catch it really quick 1/2 of a roll will bring it back up in just a couple of minutes. I like that I can take just a portion of the roll. If I don't cath it right away I may need a full roll, and when it gets really low it may take 2 rolls to get me back to feeling right again.
I always try to follow with a protein source, but the smarties work great when the hypoglycemia hits in the car or in the checkout line at a store where access to food is not easy. Very few calories and a very controllable source of sugar. Just a suggestion that works well for me. Hope it helps.

I've got it too.
I had a two hour glucose tolerance test and mine dropped to 42.
Thing is, I can't seem to predict when it's gonna happen. I keep hard candy with me at all times.
I heard about dogs trained to alert during a RH attack. Anyone out there know more about this? Couldn't find one in L.A., Ca.

Thank you all for your responses. I am also so concerned with weight gain (as we all are) considering how much I have to eat just to get up to 80. I read on Melting Mommas blog she eats before bed, so I am gonna give this a try. I know I should be satisfied with my loss but I swear my body is bipolar! One day I am 160, then 166, same day. Weigh again that night 170! I am totally obsessed and need therapy.
