Hello everybody! I had a my GB procedure yesterday morning. Talking about releasing me tomorrow. I feel this is too early I really do not want to be released until saturday morning. I don't wanna go home before having a bowel movement or burpining. Was 2 days in the hospital enough for anyone?

I had the RNY procedure and 2 days in the hospital were 2 days too many for me.  I was doing laps in the hospital after I was in my room for 2 hours.  The biggest thing to remember when you are discharged is to drink.  Sip, sip, sip.  The surgeon told me that the number 1 reason for re-admission to the hospital was dehydration after having WLS.  By the way, I was released before having a BM and I think it was months before I ever burped.

Take care and Good Luck!

I was in for about 24 hours and was glad to be discharged! If would have had to stay until a bm, I'd a been there a week! As long as you can keep water down and there are no leaks, my doc says "Go home!" but if you're not comfortable, let them know!

Two days may be all your insurance will allow... since that is pretty standard with Lap procedures like WLS.

I was in one night, and went home the following day. Just fine, no problems at all.

First and foremost, congratulations!  How exciting to begin your new adventure and start living.  I have to concur with most of the posters. I was happy to go home after two days. I do remember them asking if I had a movement, but they were not surprised that I had not.

Burping....I was so concentrated on drinking my tiny sip every 15 minutes and walking around that ward, that I do not remember burping. In fact when I think about it, I had to sit up so straight when I drank my tiny sips, that I am not so sure that any air could have gotten in me.

Walking greatly relieved the back pain I had from the gas/air inside me.

My friend was in three days, for she was not ready to go home, but she had 2 year old twins waiting for her.....that might have made a difference!  If you do not feel you are ready, please let them know, and why. They may consider keeping you another day.

So, sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk. I called friends and asked them to take me around the block. Everyone was so willing, and it was just a 15 minute gig, so it really did not impose that much.

Take care and let us know how you are doing along the way!

Peace,

MM

Congrats!  Two days was more than enough for me.  I couldn't wait to get out of there!  Too many disturbances in the night, especially that awful guy who kept coming to get blood samples out of my wrist!  OW, that hurt!

If you don't have a fever or other complications, you should be ready to go in two days. I know I really enjoyed being able to
sleep in my own bed.

They had so much fluid pumping thru me that I had to pee every half an hour...literally.  They didn't even have me walking much b/c I was in and out of the bathroom so much.  Add a nasty headache to that the first night, and I got no sleep.  Although on good pain medication, it was still torture getting in and out of bed so much.  I couldn't wait to get home to my own bed!

Congrats on beginning your journey.  Good luck and God bless as you go home.
