I have been riding horses now for little over 1 yr.
If you are P O you know our butt bones area has no fat there to cusion it. than those that never had a weight problem or for those who have plenty to cushion the buttocks when riding.. I am working on riding for 4 hours at a time. I am barely up to 2 hours.
Would someone here in O  H  kindly post some pictures or explain to me what you are using to cushion your butt? those bike shorts are too expensive and In my opinion not enough cushion..in my inner lower butt area is also another spot i need more cushion..I tried wearing some sanitary pads with a small amount of relief..I would really like to see some pic's ...thanks for your time.. Wendy

Now, this is a new question! I don't ride horses anymore, but I would think that bike shorts or pants, while expensive, would be a good option. They are a lifesaver on my bike. You can get them in different thicknesses.

I have never  really HAD  any fat  on my  butt  lol... but forgive me if im wrong ... riding FAST  say at  a gallop I just  find it easier to  kind of ride  slightly ABOVE the saddle  using my  thigh muscles ....   especially  as  the horse switches gaits  so theres no hard- hitting bouncing ...

its  kind of how jockeys ride  just not as extreme ..

Even when im sitting UP  im basically shifting my weight forward  so it rests on the back of my THIGHS rather than the bottom of my BUTT  ..if that makes any sense ..

so Iguess  what im trying to say iis if U ride  show - style with Ur weight forward and Ur shoulders  strongly pulled back and Ur back straight  ...  Ur  center of gravity shifts to Ur thighs rather than Ur butt ..  i think its a lot easier to ride this way myself ... ( incidentally  the  back-and-forth ab action gives U awesome  flat abs too )

I have never  worn any butt padding and have dismounted with aching worked out THIGHS   but  never  a beat -up butt  lol

U look so great on Ur gorgeous horse  !   what an awesome team !

They DO make saddle cushions for whatever seat you ride (Western, English, Endurance, etc)

This is just an example, but you can Google say "Dressage Saddle Cushion" or Western Saddle seat cushion and find all kinds of stuff. I used to ride a lot years ago, and am looking to get back into it again. I understand that Australian saddles or Endurance Saddles are AWESOME for both horse AND Rider (IE: comfort, not so hard on yer butt, etc.)

It's like the difference between a wooden chair (regular saddle) and a Lazy-Boy Recliner (Endurance/Aussy saddle). Ahhhh!

Happy trails!
Warmly,
Jackie

Wanted to give you one more link, especially as these are more "cheap" fixes to try first and you can try them on your own saddle before having to order a new one!
