apartment sprung a leak, guess i am not going to sleep
Here I am sitting at my computer and all of a sudden I here drip, drip, drip. I look up and I see my ceiling is leaking. Then I look down on the floor and my floor is full of water - the water if puring out of the A/C in both my bedroom and the living room. I put down some towels and within 10 minutes they were totally saturated, so I got a baking dish and that filled half way up in like 15 minutes. I hated to do it but I called the super at 2 am. He was pretty nice about and came up right away. Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done while it is raining so hard - the rain is coming down in buckets and diagonal, so it is coming in through the A/C's. He emptied my pans (I am not supposed to lift anything heavy) and he did a better job of placing a few different ones and also put a couple of them on my computer desk for the ceiling leak. Nothing can be done for that until the rain stops because that has to do with the roof. I tend to think that is going to be an ongoing problem now I know others than have had ceiling problems and they didnt get fixed so fast. Just what I need now.
I am afraid to go to sleep for any period of time since I don't know how much water will accumulate in the buckets. I don't want them to overflow. Granted I don't have any carpet but I have wood furniture.
Good old mother nature. Its going to be a long night

My best hopes and wishes are with you and all those in the storm's path!
I'm so worried for my husband and family- they are in CT and NY while I am in California.

U mght want to move Ur bed away from the general area of the leak if U can. Plaster ceilings can getsauturated and come down ( and be DANGEROUS when they do ) though it takes a LOT more water than say for a sheetrock ceiling ...
just be REAL careful Ok

move the computer or anything you value that is under a wet ceiling. once after a huge rainstorm in Minneapolis I came home and couldn't find my cats. turns out the kitchen ceiling had fallen in and they were in the furthest corner of the closet in the back bedroom, just their eyeballs glowing at me.
the rain had pooled on a flat roof and it took a few days but it soaked through and did a lot of damage.
good luck!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.
size 8, life is great
I really wish I could move the computer right now but I am in so much pain right now from emptying and carrying all the buckets of water and soaked towels. I still have tons of abdominal pain from my surgeries I had this past winter and my kidney stones I will be having surgery on next month, that any bending or lifting is excrutiating for me. I already took 2 dilaudis tonight and with no sleep, I am spent. So, if the computers gets dumped on, that will have to be a casualty of war. I live alone and have no one to help me.
thanks for the advise the though.
I am signing off now. Just in case the power goes out, I don't want to be online. I still have AOL dialup - back in the dark ages. Bye for now. Hopefully I won't be gone for long

I hope you got some rest and I am glad you called and the super responded. I had a similar situation this morning and I can soooooooooooo relate ... we were so busy worrying about flooding in the basement which did not happen that we totally forgot we had bought an AC for the sitting room upstairs when our central air went out for a bit on one of the hottest days this summer. This morning I was walking towards the kitchen and stepped in this pool of water in the middle of the floor and could not figure out where it was coming from ... and then we followed the wetness along the wall to the AC nonetheless...
we got the worst part of it about an hour or so ago I believe... we are having streets closed because of fallen trees and there are a lot of power outages... there are surges and high tides and they are telling us to stay in and ride this out.... The Merritt and Wilbur Cross parkway remained closed.
