about a million years ago I looked into becoming a Vet Tech - very popular job since everybody wants to work with animals, I guess. anyway the pay was awful - barely above minimum wage with a 2  year degree.

going to be a vet would take more smarts than I have - I think I read it's harder to get into vet school than med school.

wonder what "surgical assistant" takes in schooling? and what is laboratory Estrada?  nothing like Eric Estrada?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I actually started a vet tech program for kicks.  It was interesting.  The pay, like you say, is terrible.  You can get a vet "assistant" job with no formal training and work just as hard for just as little pay.

How about medical transciption?

medical transcription makes sense, especially if I want to work at home. but, it also seems like those jobs could all go to India as well.

I think all the jobs are going to go to India eventually.  They will be operating on us with robots via a skype from India.

I have friends who do transcription right here in Alabama.  I don't know how long that work will stay here.

And on a serious note congrats on making a life change.  I am starting my first business venture at 52.  I am starting very small with no real expectations but will enjoy the journey no matter what happens.  50 is the new 30.

Medical transcription is slowly being replaced with voice recognition technology.  The computer does the typing.

Yeah but when you can do it in the states with the divinci being controlled from India then we are in big trouble!!

Are you the only person you know who had a DS in India?  You are the only person I know.

~Becky... who thought a 3.5 hour trip for the DS was a PITA...

I know a sleeve person who went there, but that's it. While I think the surgeon and the care were great, it was too much flying, particularly post op, so I discourage anyone from that same trip, if only for that reason.

There are lots of specialized medicalish programs where you do work with people, but you don't actually have to really talk to them other than... stand here... hold your breath...

ultrasound techs, vampire, etc...
pharmacy tech,
lab techs don't really work with people do they?

With the population aging I think anything medical related would be a good bet.
