DESPERATE-Can't keep my eyes open.....What could this be?

Hala,

Looks like I may be without my favorite things from this point forward.  I pay close attention to the sugar alcohols as excessive amounts cause me to get gas.

Artificial stuff......gone.  Either way it couldn't hurt.

Thank you.

I'm just throwing this out there...could there be a correlation between you having your gall bladder out in May and how your body now processes fats/carbs? Maybe your body is reacting differently to foods that used to not give you a problem. Journal your food and try to find a pattern where what you ate makes you sleepy.

Karen,

Wow the idea of the GB (or lack thereof) playing a part in this is a thought......I will put a pin in that one.  Might have to do a consult with a gastro.

In the meatime ......the artificial stuff is gone and the journaling begins.

Thanks for your help.

After you have that carby breakfast what are you having for lunch. Even though the peaches are NSA they are still full of ntural sugar. I agree that it sounds like carb coma to me,esp if you are eating a carby or low protein lunch.

Also, how about your fluids? Are you getting min of 64 oz of fluid a day? Dehydration can also cause fatiguue.

GL,
and keep us posted,
holly

Hollykim,

Thanks for weighing in on this.  I drink in excess of 64 oz. daily.  It has increased since the hot weather began.

Lunch depends on where I am.  If I am at home, I will have meat/chicken and some veggies. (wondering now about the starchy veggies).
If I am on the run at lunchtime I will usually either have rollups (cheese and turkey or ham) or cottage cheese with pineapple.  (ouch more carbs and right after the NSA peaches for a.m. snack).

I am going to call the nutritionist today.  I think I need an appointment asap.

Thanks again.

Just a thought for an interim "crutch"....since you've been through such ill health, I could see a good reason for you to take a scheduled nap at that time of day. It would probably be sellable to your employer as a reasonable accomodation for health reasons (not really under ADA, but, well, maybe in that direction).

Have you tried taking a nap at that sleepy time? If so, did it help? How long did you need to sleep? That would all be useful information.

I'd also be worried about thyroid function if I were in your shoes. Are you taking any kind of hormone-related therapy based on your breast cancer results? Those substances can be murder on energy levels. I have a friend who's on, uh, is it Tamoxifen?....to put her into chemical menopause after breast cancer. She struggled mightily with horrible fatigue for quite some time.

Thank you Liz for the suggestions and food for thought.

On the nap issue, I am self employed so most of the time it would not be a problem.  For the past few days I have been at home..........really not enough energy to get to the office.  Seems like during the day and am very tired but not sleepy (hope that makes sense).

I should have the lab results back later today so I will know where I stand with the thyroid.  I am already on meds for hypothyroidism.  Perhaps the meeds need to be adjusted as I am on a very low dose. Hope the PCP calls as I need to know which way to go with this.   I called and asked the nurse to share the RH information with him.

Negative on the post breast cancer drugs.  I would have had to take Tamoxifen had I not had the bilateral mastectomy.  Having taken the agressive route with the treatment the oncologist said I could bypass the drug.  He thought the side effects outweighed the benefit.  I am grateful for that.

Thanks again.

Try lying down for a scheduled period, 30-60 minutes, and stay there and stay quiet and undisturbed regardless of whether or not you fall asleep. Meditate or whatever you need to do to quiet your mind. It's still rest even if it isn't sleep. See if that does anything for you over the course of a week or so.
