I have found that mixing it up works for me. I joined my local gym that is dirt cheap for the family membership. So my two kids and my mom goes with me. We motivate each other to go, I also signed my daughter (9 yrs old) up for a dance class at the gym because I get a discount. So I have to go so that she gets to her class and the rest of us workout while she is in class. That is three days a week. One day a week I go to the park to walk the trail twice. Then I do the Wii "Just Dance" or the MIchael Jackson game, which is fun and not like exercise at all.  Once you do it for a few weeks, you get to the point where you don't want to miss it. Music makes it better too. Make a playlist that you can listen to when walking the trail or on the treadmill, eliptical. I even have a playlist for weight and toning exercises that motivates me.

I keep track of my exercise on a calender similar to a food log.  I log daily  my walking minutes, times to the gym, or classes.  Then I calculate a weeekly average.  This helps we stay accounatable and tracks my goals. My goal is to walk on average 40 minutes per day 4-5 days per week.  Go toCurves 3-4 times per week.  I have just started adding 1-2 extra activilites per week , like a class, or Wii etc.

 Set reasonable goals.

Schedule your workout at a time convenient for your lifestyle and personality.

I walk for 30 minutes in the morning before I go to work.  If I wait until later in the day, exercise has a way of not getting done because of other things demanding my attention or I'm just too tired to do it.

 Listen to your body.

If something hurts, take a break and re-evaluate your workout routine.

Hello Eric,

My journey to healthiness started september 25th,2009.  I kept to a 1500 cal diet and "exercise" really wasn't a main focus, although my movement did improve. Walking a little bit more each day I soon was able to walk small distances without gasping for a breath. I use to tease my son that it was a conspiracy in parking so far from the entrance to a store but it was a good way to get moving. but all in all my focus was so much on my husband and health, me moving just happened.

February 24th of this year I was at 430.1 lbs. Yes I had lost 120 lbs already by eating 1500 and moving some but after seeing a surgeon about my hernia, he said WLS he would do first to get the weight off asap. NS with such a wait time in getting into ther WLP I just signed up June 15th weighing 369.2lbs. So how did I lose since feb? WALKING I knew I had to make a new behaviour and exercise daily so i chose walking. I started doing 20 minutes 5 times a week. Once I felt comfortable I added 5 minutes each week. would push my self to walk faster and switch up distances in the time alotted... challenging myself to get cardio up, I bought a pedometer. tracked my steps. which wasnt many starting off. but now my goal is to get in at least 10000 steps a day. walking 5/7 days a week only lasted 2 weeks then i got into making excuses n saying naaaaa tomorrow etc etc...sooo i said i'll get rid of that decision, i'll walk everyday...and have since...rain or shine. I do a 45 minute walk, very brisk walking to get a good burn. In the last week I have added 2 1/2 lbs weights where i walk 100 steps with arms swinging then lift my arms high up and down for 60 steps then back to swinging 100 etc etc. It is quite the burn. I am now down to 343 pounds. and i am hooked and HAVE to get walking. I get 11000 steps or more a day now and feel so much better for it.

I more than likely won't get my surgery now til fall. I am not sure how much I will be down by then... but I will not stop at the new habits I have been forming... all is for the good. And when I pick up my tool along the way, it will fit right in good in building a better healthier me;)

I am so fortunate...I have Humana Gold insurance And therefore I have Silver Sneakers!  There are several places even in Daytona Beach where I can use my SS card!  I am especially looking forward to going back to Curves, that's the best...workout with dance....rock n' roll!

Right now I can hardly walk and I use a cane.  I began coming up out of a deep depression afew months ago and I am left with such weakness and poor balance.  I really need to go out and walk a little every day...
