I am just curious and wanted to know if it's okay to suck on hard sugar free cand from time to time on this post op lquid diet as long as I make sure that I don't swallow pieces of it? I never really heard anyone talking about it and would like to know.

I had the same question during my beginning post op.  I was told it is ok as long as it's sugar free.  I'm 13 months post op and I still suck on my sugar free candy and 122 lbs down.

Good luck and enjoy

Just don't over do it.  SF candy has sugar alcohol which can cause digestive 'issues'.

I sucked on sugar free lifesavers but like nomoresugar said, watch anything with sugar alcohols! the lifesavers did not bug me

Okay, I'm glad to hear that. However, I would also like to ask this... does anyone think I'm pushing it assume that sugar free ice cream is okay for my soft food stage?

yeah, you might regret it.

1. lots of people are lactose intolerant for awhile
2. sugar free or no sugar added ice cream made my husband (RNY 2006) violently ill for awhile

i did sugar free popsicles and sugar free juice bars right away post op. I'd treat lightly with dairy products if I were you

plus even though they are no sugar added anything wilh milk has a LOT of natural sugars, if you are a dumper it will suck big time.

go slow, ok? and keep asking questions!

 I wouldn't suggest it.

The sugar alcohols in the post op period might make you miserable.

Thanks, I'm trying to find out about "good foods". I have been totally ignorant about them all of my life. All of this is new to me. So please, forgive me if I ask an outragoues question because I'd rather ask and be safe, rather than be sorry. Thank everyone for sharing your knowledge, support and advice. They are really appreciated

 Nothing is outrageous.

I was just thinking back to the early stage -- 2/3 hard candies could really blow up with gas....

I have been sucking on SF Altoid smalls since day 1 post op. My mouth gets very dry from all the water and they help alot. The sugar free starlite mints and Werthers do however create alot of gas. Do Not try the SF chocolate for a long time, it's like exlax.
