Birth Control??

Hi Everyone,

I wasn't sure what forum to put this on so I figured I'd go with the main one. I recently started a birth contol called Mononessa which is a generic for Ortho-Cyclen..I have only been taking it for a little over a week now and I have already noticed weight gain and increased hunger. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions of a pill or any type of BC that doesn't cause much weight gain. I was on the Nuva-ring for about 5 months and didn't experience weight gain but experience other bad side effects so I stopped taking it for about 6 months and am now trying out the pill. Any recommendations would be great! I apologize if this was the wrong forum to post this question at. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how you feel about IUDs, but you could get the copper IUD which doesn't contain any hormones at all (lasts 10 years), or Mirena which has very small doses of hormones (lasts 5 years). I gained alot of weight when I took the pill. And I got the DepoProvera shot one time and I gained like crazy! But I've had Mirena for about 7 months and I haven't noticed any 'extra' weight gain. If you aren't into the idea of IUDs..even though I LOVE my Mirena, I would speak to your OB/Gyn about a low-dose pill.

 I agree! I've had my Mirena for a year now and it's great! My periods consist of spotting and I've lost 25 lbs (dieting) since January so that's not an issue either.  Good Luck!

Another vote for mirena. Pills make me a raving lunatic, hubby requested I not take them. Lol. I love not having anything to fumble w like a sponge or ring. Im on year 3. 2 before ds one after. I've lost weight the whole time. You do bleed a lot to begin like 4 weeks but I haven't had a real period since. I don't think I can go back!!! My gyn said she would put another one in at 5 years.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I will definitiely have to see about an IUD. That seems to be the best option at this point.

 I took Depo-Provera for years and just loved it. No periods and no weight gain - that I could blame on IT, anyway.
