X-posting: Blood sugar too high?

I'm a pre-op but I have some concerns  that I am hoping those who have experience with diabetes can help me with.
I started checking my blood sugar this past week again as I have some issues with blurred vision, dizzi-ness and heart palpitations not associated with anything else I can think of. My blood sugar has consistently been over 100 no matter what time of the day I take it or what if anything I have or have not eaten. (112 at 10 minutes after waking no food or liquids as of 6:30pm the night before. 128 within 2 hours of eating a salad with creamy italian dressing and having a Vitamin water and a cup of coffee with cream and sugar) I am concerned that maybe I have diabetes creeping up on me in addition to the high cholestrol. I do have a history of hypoglycemia which is why I have a glucose meter and know how to use it but before I was watching for really low glucose levels and was always happy when I could spend a whole day in the 75 to 80 range (no dizziness or blurry vision stuff) Now I see it's shot up to over the 100s and I don't know if that is something I need to be alerting my doc to or not.
I am having bloodwork done again on Friday but for the hyperlipidemia and not sure if they will automatically test blood glucose at that time. But maybe I should ask if they can?
I guess it's a good thing I am having things checked now because anything unusual I am catching right away. But it can be exhausting trying to keep up with everything. I just need to know if I should be keeping track more stringently (like before I take my vites and before bed and when I wake up) or if Im just worrying for nothing.

BTW: I spent the day checking my glucose at 1 hour-ish intervals here's what I got:
7:20a 113
7:30 to 8:45a 3 cups of coffee with cream and sugar.
9:00a 129
10:37a 111
11:41a 103
12:15p Lunch consisting of a meatloaf sandwhich, a few doritoes and a 20 oz Mt. Dew
1:45p 126
2:45p 124
3:41p 133
4:25p 115
Dinner around 6pm consisting of corned beef and veggies slow simmered in a pressure cooker. 1 large glass of iced tea.
9:23p 151 nothing between dinner and this testing.
Are glucose levels supposed to be this varied? And also just a small gripe here...my fingers are sore... sigh.

You do seem to be on the border of diabetes.  Please mention this to the doctor.  Testing on a meter is not that accurate and those variations are normal.  For a non-diabetic, they probably should not go over 120, no matter what and when you eat.

I am writing down all of the tests as well as the time I do the test and if I have eaten or drank anything within an hour or two of the test.  But I will definitely mention it to my doc. And between now and then just keep keeping track so she has more than just one day of testing to go by.

Ask you an A1C when you go Friday to the dr.  That will tell them anything they need to know!  I sure wish my levels were like that!  If I could have sweet tea again I would love it!

You need an HgA1c test from your doc to determine what's going on for sure, but based on those finger stick reports, I wouldn't worry about it. They are minimally elevated at best, and the fluctuations are practically nothing.

I will ask for the test when I see her on the 3rd and thanks for the advice. As far as the "minimally elevated" thing though I thought that since up until a few months ago (granted not testing daily but generally when I felt yucky) I had very low numbers (grabbed my book just too double check and  my average was about 68 sometimes around 54 and sometimes all the way up to 85) that going so high above that would indicate a problem?  I mean, that seems like a very BIG leap from 70-ish to 151. But then that's why I am asking for help since the only thing I know to do is when I get woozy and feel sick I eat a lifesaver or a jolly rancher and within a couple minutes feel better and I try to eat something every couple hours so I don't get that feeling. Sometimes I do great at that sometimes not so great.

anyway, I will ask to have it checked.

The "new" normal range is 70-100.  At the hospital I work at, we don't treat high blood sugar with insulin unless the blood glucose level is over 150.  And then, that is such a neglibly small amount that I call it a "why bother" dose.

As has already been mentioned, ask for an HgbA1C level.  That is a more accurate measure of your blood glucose levels over the last 90 days.

Okay thanks Sharyn! I did know about the new normal range but I am hoping to ward off any problems now before it gets out of control. I was just concerned that going from hypoglycemic to the higher numbers indicated a problem. But as has been advised I will check with the doc and get that test HgbA1C.

Are you pre-op or post-op?  Which surgery did you have/are you having?

The Ds has the best results for curing type II diabetes.

And here's a brand new study that is very informative:

hi Beemerbeeper and thanks for the link! I am a pre-op hoping to have the DS. I know with the DS its important to be as healthy as I can be (within my control) and I am doing whatever I can to get that way.
