Are you scared to have weight loss surgery?
Hi
Is this Web Site more about YOU being right or ME being right? I still feel it is about supporting someone and answering their questions. I have NEVER candy coated what I say. If you are and adult it is a GIVEN and you should know that there is a risk with almost ANY choice you make in life.
I will stand behind what I said and try to reassure someone that they will be OK and that this is something that is going to save their life instead of trying to scare them to death. Believe me I am willing to bet that they have all ready thought of all the things that could happen to them. I would tell anyone who wants WLS to do THEIR OWN research and find out what is best for them. Then come back and ask me any questions they want.
So lets stop this WHO IS RIGHT AND WHO IS WRONG CRAP and move on with helping and supporting each other.

I was scared, but I didn't get scared until I was waiting to go into surgery. I was SO glad my mom was there...I hand my hands over my face crying and she was whispering in my ear about all the things that were going to be SO much better afterwards...She was right...She always is...She had RNY 7 years ago and so, she knew what she was talking about...
Being just about 3 weeks out is tough for me because I'm wanting to be 100% my old self, and I have to keep reminding myself that its only been 3 weeks and I did have major surgery...so, I have to take it easy still...It's also been tough with friends who stopped seeing me and who could care less...but, classes end on Friday and then I'm outta here!!
I wish everyone luck and perseverance with their journeys. Everyone is SO different, which is what makes everyone's journeys SO personal.

Hi,
Well, congratulations on your surgery. You are such a lucky person to have had your Mom with you. It is tough to realize that we are human, and it does take time to heal. That we have limitations. It is a relearning process. Now we have to make better choices in how we eat, what we do for exercise and how we are going to lead our lives.
Your Mom sounds like a wonderful Mom, and it was great that she was there for you. She will always be there for you during your weight loss journey. We all have to learn how to eat again, and the In's and outs of a social life. Sounds like you have great support.
It will just keep getting better. I always just consider this a lifestyle change and NOT a diet.
Take care and hugs,

Bonnie Bingo! There were my thoughts exactly. I wasn't afraid of getting surgery at all, instead I was afraid of being fat the rest of my life, unable to walk, unable to have children, unable to be there for my husband and family- such a fate is worse than death. I'd also done countless hours of research and homework on both the surgery of my choice and my surgeon, and I had full confidence in these decisions without any second guessing. Even before they knocked me out for the actual surgery, I was cool as a cucumber.

Hi,
I loved what you wrote. You wrote about things that I had not thought of because I was much older when I had my surgery. What insight you had, thanks for opening my eyes to that, We all know that we will run a risk by having surgery. With any surgery we can have a complication. I just felt I had picked a doctor that I had the best chances I could have. I had a friend who had been to him and she was a nurse, I trusted her judgement and respected her as a professional. I have NO regrets and I want people to know that life can become good with WLS. We all have choices in life and we have to do what is best for US and no one else.
Hugs and congratulations to you.

Yes, life is GREAT after WLS, I agree :)
I've seen some posts lately about a few cases of complications where the worst case scenario happened, or severe non-compliance with nutrition and aftercare, but it's usually posted by a third party and I never trust that- sadly there's a lot of people here for information before they get their surgery and I know it probably scares them. So it's great to see threads like this to discuss fear and put it in perspective.

Hi,
Thanks yes, it is great when people can discuss their fears. We all know that there can be complications or risks when we have surgery. They are rare, but they do happen. You need to educate yourself, pick the best doctor you can for yourself. Talk to friends maybe who have gone to this doctor and then make your own choice.
WLS is the answer for so many people. I have always said it is NOT for everyone. But, I don't want those who say it is not for them to try to scare those who are considering it. We all have the right to chose what WLS is best for us. Thanks for your reply I always enjoy reading what people have to say.

Hi Bonnie,
Very well said. I truly believe that I was going to die faster from being fat than I was from ever having this surgery. I took me about 6 months to finally tell my close friend (who by the way went and had the smae surgery with Dr. Aceves) and husband that this is what I wanted to do. My husband has always been great and said "I know you well enough that you have done a lot of research on this WLS so go for it." What a sweetheart he is. He fell in love with me when I was fat and he loves me just as much now.
Thanks for saying what you said. I loved hearing it.

I cried my eyes out when they prepped me for surgery because I was scared. I am glad I still went through with it though.
