Six Year Post Op Check In
It's been a long long time since I've visited this website, and I feel terrible for not checking in from time to time. I think I spent close to a year glued to this place, always TAKING but never giving back. Lots of people gave me support and help when I needed it.
I just wanted to check in and give you a "report from the field" so to speak.
For those of you early in your journey, whether in the planning stages or newly treated, I want you to know you have made the best decision of your life. At six years post op, I am still 6'7" 240lbs, just as I was after my recovery period (100 pounds lost). I have kept off all the weight, all of my co-morbities are gone, and I'm arguably in the best shape of my life!
My profile is so old that it's won't let me upload a new picture without wiping out all my old junk, so you'll have to take my word for it, but I look and feel pretty darn good :)
If you're new, or fairly new, I promise you that the trip will be a lot more fun than you ever expected and you'll be so happy you did this. It changed my life and I'll be forever grateful for this surgery, and this website!

I just read this post in my old profile from EXACTLY six years ago today. It seems like a lifetime ago:

I feel like a million bucks! I'm eating normal food again which has done wonders for my energy and outlook. For example, yesterday i had a protein shake for breakfast. Skim milk, two scoops of powder, and three heaping tablespoons of milled Flax seed mixed in. It's a great, fast way to start the morning and lots of energy. I also mix up a 54 ounce 7-11 cup with Isopure powder. I am getting 75 grams just between those two drinks.
For lunch I had some cold crab meat, a yogurt and a Jell-o. For dinner I grilled a big fat turkey burger with a slice of cheese on top, served on a piece of lettuce with a tomato slice, onion and a squirt of mustard and A1.
Hey, I can live like this! I thought I'd miss the beers and stuff, but they don't do a thing for me anymore. A SF Arizona Green Iced Tea hits the spot.
I should have done this ten years ago. In fact, I already decided if I hit a plateau and stop losing weight, I'll just have them open me back up just for fun. Well that, and to have Rhea, the nurse with the braids and beads in her hair give me another sponge bath.
I went from a size 50 pants to 44-46. Not bad for just a hair over three weeks huh? Problem is, I have nothing smaller, so I'm going to start wearing spandex biker shorts to work instead of pants. Those babys should be good from 44-46 all the way down to my goal weight. I mean hey, when spandex starts hanging off my ass, it's time to STOP. right? Sure, it will take a little getting used to, but people won't even notice after a few days, I'm sure..
Wonder if they come in camo for the deer camp this year?

Thank you for sharing. I am getting sleeved in a few weeks and it really helps to hear from people like you who have been able to maintain their weightloss. I am so excited to start this journey. I have been hoping to hear from someone who did this more than 3 years ago to see how they are doing..you're truly inspiring. It's good to know you have maintained good health too. Gives me hope :)
Thanks!
Thanks!
Lori

I read the first page of your blog on my break and was glued to the screen .. I bookmarked it to continue reading later ... I was totally captivated by the photo taken with the Shona people in Zimbabwee ... and reading all you entries ... WOW ... they should see you now.... Congratulations.... I am so happy you stopped by to give an awesome update.... please do continue to check in ... you ARE an inspiration...
It is soo good to hear from a veteran in this WLS business who has gotten to goal and been there all this time. That worry has been in the back of my mind since I decided to have the surgey, that I would gain it all back. And then some as has always happened in the past. Hearing from those of you who have gone before and still doing so well is an inspiration, I really appreciate your sharing. Please come back next year and tell us more.
