Went in to see the doc for an issue with hemorrhoids and ended up with an appointment not just to have them banded but to get a colonscopy and an endoscopy as well. I've lived with the hemorrhoids for 22 years but lately things have been a bit worse than usual. Enough unusual that I mentioned them to my PCP who took one look and went "Oh my god those are huge" (gee thanks doc... even my hemorrhoids are fat) and got me the fastest appointment with the surgeon she could possibly get me. So I visited with him for a bit, lived through the embarrassing bit and then got scheduled for the Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. His words "We might as well while we are in there"
I am beginning to feel like somewhat of a guinea pig. Is it always like this when a person starts trying to get healthy? "let's see how many umcomfortable procedures we can put her through before she cries like a girl!!" sigh... all these appointments.. im a lil bit EXHAUSTED! and I havent even gotten started good. Let's hope the extra vitamins I started on kick in soon I need all the energy I can get.

Some of us avoid the doctor when we are obese. Like me. So after I lose the weight and finally go, she looks at my chart, and says "It's been X years since you've had Y done??! and X years since you've had Z?!!!" and so on.

Add to that if you have hit a milestone, like 40 yrs, or 50 years, since those trigger their own joys, like mammograms, and colonoscopies.

Ahh the joys of getting older. At least with WLS, we now have the possibility of getting older.

I wish your procedures go smoothly. Honestly, the prep is worse than the actual procedure.

Bearmom, I think a lot of mine comes from when I was a kid and would get hurt and my folks would say "Is it bleeding? Broken? No? You're fine! Go play." I can't visibly see the problem so there must not be a problem right? Until I go to the doctor for one thing mention something else in passing and they jump on it and go "Your what is doing WHAT?  omg lets get you set up with someone who takes care of that now! " Then I'm all "wow it wasn't bleeding or broken so I didn't think it was a big deal" lol.

When I hit my 40th Birthday i went in to make my appointment for my 1st mammogram, mentioned I was STILL having issues with my periods and next thing I know I'm having a hysterectomy for possible uterine cancer because they saw "something" on the ultrasound. Turns out it was apparently just cysts or something equally not as big a deal as cancer because the doc who did the hysterectomy said I was clean as a whistle. I went in for the ultrasound on April 15th and had the hysterectomy on the 27th.

Oh well "this too shall pass" i am looking forward to FINALLY being healthy enough that I can just go in for checkups and they don't find 15 other things we have to take care of "while we're at it."

Better hope he uses two different scopes while he's up there.

One of my pre-op requirements was to get all of my screenings done....mammogram and colonoscopy were both a bit overdue...
Colonoscopy and Endoscopy are no big deal....my first colonoscopy revealed several large pre-cancerous polyps, so in effect, saved my life.  My second one came back clear (4 years later) and now I have a 5 year pass...
Just do it...you'll be glad you did.

I get both done at the same time,  its the same tool, , I control my hemorrhoids and fissure issue with the maximum dosage of prilosec, the acid from your stomach that can cause a ulcer doesn't care if it eats your anus on the way out or your tonsils if your burp. it is also used for laryngitis

Walter,
really? they can control hemorrhoids with prilosec? why do we find these things out when its too late? And I also did not realize that you could use it for laryngitis. Since I work in a call center where I talk non-stop for 8 hours a day THIS is a helpful thing to know.

it is listed as a off label use,  i think wedmd mentioned it, i learned it from a VA doc who Rx the max dosage, years ago and after a month i had good results.  2% nitro in Vaseline ornament is needed also, uses  mouth wash as a wash, gentle effective antiseptic
