Since I have been working on cutting back on my coffee (from 1 to 2 pots a day) I have been drinking more water and I noticed im getting heartburn right after I drink a glass (about 12oz). Is that common? And yes I will be asking my doc about it next visit but in the meantime I'd living on rolaids and Previcid.

that seems odd, because usually coffee causes more heartburn. for an OTC, I like gaviscon but I also take a PPI.

you are post-op, right?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

seems odd.

I have heard a lot of people have a hiatal hernia as pre-ops - I did - maybe you do.

Yep its definitely weird since I knew coffee was supposed to cause heartburn but it never has for me unless I drink it black. bu****er? I've never heard of water causing heartburn before. Oh well i still have about 32oz to go for the day. Maybe it will clear up on its own?

Last night I had the worst heartburn I have ever had and I was out of any medicinal relief.  I googled a home remedy and holy crap, it worked!  2 tablespoons of baking soda mixed into about 10 ounces of water.  Add about 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of honey.  Mix it over the sink because it will fizz like hell and down it.  It tastes like hell but I swear, it was the best remedy I have ever tried.  My heartburn was gone within about 10 minutes and it hasn't come back today.  I am a believer!  Best of luck to you :)

I am post op, and I feel heartburn sometimes after I drink water.  I take Pepcid Complete at least once a day. I am not sure it is a result of me drinking water or it is just because it is in the range of 30 minutes after I eat.

Pepcid seems to work for the most part.

Before I was diagnosed I complained to my doctor tha****er caused me the worst heartburn of any substance.    He immediately said "hiatal hernia" and sent me for testing.  Sure enough I had a huge hiatal hernia and now take Prilosec daily and have no more heartburn.
