It is, too, "less evasive."  It doesn't hide or camouflage itself and hold its breath like those other sugeries do, dontcha know.

Adjustable Gastric Band on 03/03/08

o had my band placed in March of 2008 and did well for 2 yrs with the band. in that time i only had 2 ffills and lost 83 lbs. then in march 2010 i developed a slip. i really did want another band, but ended up with the sleeve. ive lost another 30 lbs with the sleeve. i do like my sleeve but have to admit if I was offered the sleeve first i prob would have opted still for the band. i have friends who are doing very well with the band. and i can say the same with the sleeve. ppl can get complications with the sleeve too. i have a friend who has developed complication after complication with the sleeve. it isnt her fault or her doctors fault...it just sometimes happens. i feel lucky that i have done well. some of the same issues i had with the band, i have with the sleeve. i still vomit..not asmuch as i did with the band, but i still do. after saying all that, i think every person has to listen to all the info...think about it....do their own research and then make an intelligent decision on what is the best procedure for them

Talking with surgeons and attending seminars are not the best source of information! They are selling you something and generally will only go into any detail about the surgeries they do, leaving you very short on the information to say the least. The best source for information are medical studies and reviews. You see actual statistics, rates of complications/failures (and types) and from there- start the search. The surgeon should be your last step, AFTER you decide on the best procedure for YOU.

Rarely have I seen one person give such bad advice.

The band ALWAYS fails the person.

I can't believe I thought that putting a ring of torture around my stomach was going to do anything but cause problems.  It is unnatural in every way and causes a totally unnatural way of eating even for most of the people who are successful at losing weight.

I didn't want to live that way anymore and I had the thing taken out after IT FAILED to fulfill any of the promises made.

I remember reading about complications when I was planning on getting the band and I just knew I was not going to fall into the category of "the problem people."  It wasn't going to happen to me........Confidence was replaced by doubt, which was replaced by fear which was replaced by reality.

We all want to believe that we are going to be one of the lucky ones who loses all of the weight and lives happily ever after.  But with the band, failure is built in.

NO ONE should blame themselves for band failure no matter what the cir****tances.  It is an invader in your body and your body is going to win by rejecting a contraption that works against everything your digestive system was designed to do.

I follow the same rules now that I followed before WLS surgery.  Only now, my stomach has limitations that prevent me from eating vast quantities of food...that is all.  I can fail at losing weight, but it won't be tearing up my insides in the process.

Mine failed, and I was revised. 2 years of pain that I thought I had to endure in order to be normal weight. I wasted the Dollars on that surgery and ended up having to pay out of pocket for the one that worked for me.

INGE! You look so fetching in your new hat and avatar !!!

I guess because my band caused too much stomach acid to be produced and a 4 lb tumor it is my fault.......

Even thought I was "by the book and rule lap band patient"

Did they give here blinders when they  installed her band?
