Nine months later... (kinda long)
If anyone told me nine months ago that I'd weight 168, I'd have told them they were out of their mind. But it happened!
I've been overweight ALL of my life and don't recall weighing under 170 since grade school! My mind hasn't caught up with my size yet and being overweight forever has made me uncomfortable with compliments, so this is a tough pill to swallow. Do you find that too?
I've been off blood pressure and cholesterol meds for a while and everything is within normal range. It's good to know that some things are still reversable over 50! If only there was a magic cream for the saggy skin! Even exercise on old skin won't help 100%. But no worries, I'm THRILLED that my health is in great shape and the lifestyle changes that have occured in the last 9 months are something very easy to live with. I say lifestyle changes because the sleeve is just the tool...like having a car. Sure, it takes you places but you have to use it and tend to it properly to get you where you want to go and avoid breakdown.
I'm still at odds in figuring out what my final goal weight should be. A dr. in the group (not the one who did my surgery) told me that I'd only lose 60-80% of my excess weight with VSG, so I'm kinda drawn to prove him wrong . According to the "charts" my highest weight range should be between 154-159 (I'm 5'6 1/2...that half means so much!). I started my WL journey 100 lbs over that at 253. I feel incredible now, so I'd be happy if today's weight is where I land for good. How have you found your final weight goal?
I love love love my sleeve. Two years before I had it done, I'd seen a different dr who was going to do the lapband on me. Fortunately for me, my insurance at the time didn't cover it. As fate would have it, my insurance changed, I went to another dr and viola! Things happen for a reason! So for anyone going through the hoop jumping and waiting games, be patient...what's meant to be will be.
Best wishes to all in your own journeys. And congrats to those who've reached their destination.

Congrats. You've done really well. I had bypass just over 13 months ago, and decided in month 6 to try for 100% weight loss. I know what you mean about this being a tool. I see many post op'rs that try to pull funny stunts. I stuck to my docs plan and now weigh 115 pounds. I love eating healthy and my new life. At 54 I feel half my age. Let's keep it up and hugs to you and your success. I'm not perfect, but I work this every day.
well girl I'm right there with you; I didn't know what to set my goal the dr. didn't set one so I decided to go for a normal bmi which at 5'7" is 159 lbs. I made it to that goal on April 6! 9 days from my 10 month post op date. now to maintain!! keep praying that I get this right for the rest of my life! Great Job! keep it up!!! Hugs
