massivly quck weight gain......wtf!
This is QUITE UNLIKELY, however rapid weight gain can be caused by cardiac issues, not just eating patterns. I say this is unlikely because it's more likely that a 40 pound gain in 1-2 months would be cardiac in nature, rather than in 4. Still, keep track of your weight on a daily basis and take that monitoring list to your doctor to see if they want to do something like an echocardiogram to check for diseases like congestive heart failure.
Here's hoping that this is a problem with what's going on in your mouth, rather than a problem with your heart. One of those two is a LOT easier to fix.

There are many factors that this can be... Which is why your Dr has already started work-up.....a whole range of issues from diet and exercise to health issues....many of which have been discussed.....the one thing I thought of immediately was a possible problem with ovarian cysts. That kind of weight gain that rapidly is commonly seen in teen age girls who have them.....in adult women it can cause gain that may be sudden depending on the type of cysts that develop, (most of which produce male hormones,,,,with resulting weight gain
. These cysts are usually benign and can be treated with oral anti-diabetic drugs effectively.
..Meinwhile. Do what you have immediate control of.. 1) Don't despair.. We are here to to help you and support you...2)go back...to immediate post-op regimine... to your high protein diet...count your protein and non- calorie liquid intake carefully. my protein goal was 90, but each surgeon is different
3) Get in your B-vitamins especially, they control cravings... and record everything you eat.....with your weight.record (.I'd just weight every other day at the most.)..these records will be helpful to your DR and Nutritionist.. i f you take fluid pills be sure to record when you take them.that would be helpful too.
This will either confirm...for you that you have good control, already or put you back on track... or that your system has gotten used to the surgical changes..At the least .It should slow your gain to give you a measure of control until your Dr can go over all those test results.. Hope these suggestions help, If there is anything else we can do please let us all know... Sweetpotato

Weight gain that is that rapid really sounds more like an undiagnosed serious health issue as opposed to a WLS issue (or a regular weight issue). (I mean seriously, you'd have to be gorging constantly to gain that sort of weight. It wouldn't be something you could do and not notice.)
Some serious health issues have sharp rapid weight gain as a major symptom. You don't need to be depressed as much as you need to be determined to get a diagnosis ASAP.
Rapid weight gain can be a symptom of serious medical issues like nephrosis, acromegaly, pituitary tumors, thyroid issues, cushing syndrome, hashimoto's disease, PCOS and pancreatic tumors.
I find it shocking that you don't remember when you had WLS. That could be a sign of some mental side effect of whatever your medical issue is that has caused this very rapid weight gain. You also mentioned crying constantly and depression. If that started happening as soon as the weight gain started (as opposed to just lately when the weight gain started freaking you out like it would anyone), that could be a symptom as well.
Please make certain that they don't pan this off as simple regain. (I don't think they will since they were "astonished" too.) But you never know what they'll do if they can't find out what it is. If they can't find out what it is, get a second opinion. Seriously.
Good luck!

I am sorry about your weight gain, I hope you stay on the doctors until they tell you what is wrong if it is medical.. also it kind of strange that a couple of post has asked you what have you been eating, but so far you have not answer them. It is hard to really give you a answer if we don't know the whole story only half.. It could be you have gone back to the old way of eating.. if so you have to address that issue to move on. So it it good that you are trying to get a handle on it. Take care and let us know what the Doctor has found out. I think it is good that we share our experience good or bad, it can help someone who has the same thing going on.. take care
Thanks for the lots of responses, thats why i LOVE it here. so:
my surgery was 5 years ago (I thought it was 4).
my blood draw showed that i have severe vitamin D deficingcy (sp?) that i have to take a 5000mgm(thats right!) pill once a week
it also showed that i have very low iron.
yesterday i had a bone dencity scan to check for bone loss.
i no longer excersize do to the fact that i suffer from SEVERE chronic pain from fibromyagia, degenerative discs & arthritis in my lower spine. it has always been there, but the pain has NEVER been to this degree!
i am eating more carbs (I honestly dont know how to stop, any suggestions?)
ii think i do drink after i eat, not much, but i do. just a swig to get the food down. (crystal lite or water only).
i do have HyPOthyroidism
i had a complete hysterectomy when i was 30
i am bi polar , so i take lots of meds for that & pain meds for the above mentioned.
does that help?

Google Vitamin D deficiency and weight gain. There is a connection to gaining weight when you are deficient in D.
What type of Vitamin D are you taking? You need to take it in DRY form (D is a fat soluable vitamin) to absorp it correctly as a RNYer. I was taking 50,000 iu a day and mine came up fairly quickly, now I take 10,000 iu a day and hope to remain ok. Oh and you should be taking Vitamin D-3 not D2.
The hypothyroidism WILL also cause weight gain. Have you been checked lately, do your meds need to be adjusted?
