OT: Raise your hand for PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Both hands up.

If PP wasn't around back in the day, I never would have rec'd counseling for my rape.

Here's a big **** you to the people who are against PP simply because they're too lazy to educate themselves about the great things PP doe and can do, if allowed to continue.

Providing low cost cancer screenings pap smears, contraceptives and family planning services saves billions of tax dollars.

Think about it: cancer prevention is MUCH cheaper than cancer treatment.

The reason the right is attacking PP is based on 2 things:

1) right wing politicians get big campaign donations from anti choice groups when they lobby this way

2) attacking PP and the unions is a political strategy to weaken the democratic voter base.

Read this article in Mother Jones to see how it works:

Both hands raised here, and I'll second the big FU to all non PP supporters.

It saddens me that many of the responses to me were name calling.  After I pushed the send button I realized that OT means off topic, and thus the first part of my post was in error.  For the record I know that PP provides many other services and am glad that women have access to health care they otherwise wouldn't have.  My heart goes out to rape victims that need that portion of their services.

For the record, I WAS advised to get an abortion in no uncertain terms back in '76 by the local PP.  Signed up for it and everything.  Three days before the appointment decided I couldn't go through with it.

Are people not allowed to have differing opinions?

How would you expect people to respond when you quickly tell them that their post isn't welcomed on a board you rarely post on?
Pretty pretty please, don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f*ckin' perfect.

Amber, you've got a point.  I apologize for being tactless.  but not for my beliefs.

You are entitled to your beliefs, but to dismiss a wonderful organization because you had a bad experience, is kind of rough. They do some really wonderful things. If what you say is true, you got a bad clinic. I am sorry that happened to you, but they have saved hundreds, if not thousands of lives by providing cancer screenings and birth control to those who can't afford it or are too embarrassed to ask their family doctors. They also PREVENT abortion, but providing condoms and birth control. Pro-life supports should whole heartedly support the free and cheap dispensing of birth control. You can't really have it both ways.
Pretty pretty please, don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f*ckin' perfect.

Having choices, that is what it is all about. The political stink is if you have a choice you might not choose what they want you to choose.

It doesn't matter what else PP does for the community, all attention is focused on the abortion information they provide because the extreme right doesn't want you to have that choice. It is evil in their eyes and all good works become unimportant because of their religious beliefs. Our policital world is corrupt with Christianity. Christianity within itself is not evil, I don't think but the mutated, self serving, hypicritical right wing politicians are a corrupt bunch using Christianity to force their views and their control over the government.

I agree totally, hands raised here.  I am also happy to find out what OT means, I have been wondering.  I am pretty new here and rarely get the short hand.
