Anyone ever had cortisone injection to the wrist?
If so, how long before pain resolution and full ROM (range of motion) after injection?
I injured my wrist in the dumbest way possible... I usually sleep with my hand under my head out of habit I believe and woke up with my arm totally numb and discolored at the wrist... took a while to slap some life into it ... to add insult to injury I apparently did the same in slumber the following night ... hence I have a very inflamed tendon and MR showed 5 pseudo cysts and inflammation of the bursa ... all traumatic in nature. I was given a cortisone injection into the affected area last week and placed in a splint. Thing is the acuity of the pain resolved a bit after 3 days ... my wrist still hurts.. I cannot do any overhead motion or flexion/extension without this annoying pain ... if I take off the splint after 10 minutes I need to put it right back on...
Has anyone sustained a traumatic injury to wrist/tendon and how long before returning to normal ROM? This is cramping my style ... I am ambidextrous for starters ... I am fine splinted and working at my regular job but on the side I have my hair weaving/braiding shop, I draw/sketch/paint and sew among other things. The next fiesta quinceañera and wedding I contracted to do is in June and I would like to have full motion with no weakness in my hand ... oh well.. until then I will follow doctors orders while in the interim I suppose I am feeling I have a clipped wing.... I can sketch and paint .. but there are just some things that I do with the left hand better than the right ... sewing is out of the question for now but I have enough duds for a lifetime ... and to think I trained so hard for a triathlon which I may not be able to participate in SIGH...
This morning I ran with my friends from my running group at 4:00 am ... My friend did my hair so I don't have to worry much about it ... and I have assistance with my DH who is all thumbs getting dressed ... DD is a grouch in the mornings so I won't even bother her LOL ... and now I am feeling just like my shirt says ... like like old fart LOL
this morning I stepped into a crocheted tunic and called it a day... for my journal entry in my empowerment journal a picture a day keeps the pounds and the inches at bay...

I've had traumatic wrist twice. I let them inject once...felt like a lightening bolt hit me and sparked out my 5 fingers on that hand. It did stop the pain in about 3 days. Until I stopped using it for a month, and let it totally resolve, I had recurrent pain.
I've had my shoulder injected several times and couldn't allow it to heal, as being an ER RN I HAD to use it at work...NO 'light duty' or I don't get paid. Since I didn't allow it to 'rest', now I have a massive rotator cuff tear~NOT able to be repaired~ and will probably not have full use of my dominant right arm ever again.
I know you like braiding and painting...but LISTEN to my story! Inflammation needs its due rest. I hope this helps you and maybe rest til June will do it IF you let it rest 100% til then.
I wish you the BEST outcome!

Hi!
So sorry you are going through this! Six weeks ago, I awoke one day with severe pain in my right thumb at the base, radiating down into my wrist. It kept getting worse until I was unable to move my thumb at all, and it was all swollen, and it was shooting into my wrist and arm. I type for a living so it was bad. I am also ambidextrous - I write primarily with my left hand but do most everything else with my right hand. I went to an orthopedic hand surgeon, and I was diagnosed with deQuervain's tenosynovitis in my right hand/wrist. The doctor recommended cortisone injections. He gave me two injections - one in the thumb/hand area and one down into the wrist. OWWWWWWW!!!! The pain was unreal. My pain was off the chart for the rest of the day, but by the following day I had some relief and the next day even more. I was unable to take time off from work, so I was still using my hand during this time. By about three days after the injections, I had significant relief and regained my range of motion. Now, five weeks later, I have no pain whatsoever and complete range of motion. I would say, it was about one wee****il I had complete relief. I also have carpal tunnel syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis, so pain is an unfortunate daily part of my life.
I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for responding and sharing... I am glad you got relief after your shot ... sorry to hear about the RA and carpal tunnel especially with your typing for a living .... This morning I have a bit better range of motion than yesterday and pain only with elevation and some with flexion... I slept with the splint on and kept it on most of the day and that seemed to help ... I hope to have complete resolution like you soon.... Really appreciate your input. Thanks.
