IF the OP had wanted to stir the pot she would have posted this other recent study.

Tell that to my two and a half year post op god-daughter who has had over 12 hospitalizations in 20 months for a multitude of life-threatening RNY complications, including dropping below 100 lbs...(she is 5'9") Not to bash the RNY, but her experience scares the s**t out of me.
BTW, no one is "going crazy"....it is a valid point.

Steph since you are one to constantly accuse ppl of "scaring the newbies"............Why is it not ok for others to post their WLS experience b/c it will "scare the newbies", but yet you post what you just did knowing that it is something that might scare some RNY newbies????

Don't get me wrong...........I feel you have every right to post what you did. However I think it's ironic that you would accuse others of this and then do the same thing you condem other for!

The OP was not posting her experience...FYI.  Everyone is entitled to post their experience, opinion or anger...

Accusation is a pretty strong word...

First off, I was responding to Rors...direct reply to me.  Second, it is true. Third, I didn't direct that at anyone except Rors in response to his link and spoke to my own fears  and didn't suggest anything to anyone.  It is what it is...AND I did not condemn anyone for anything.
Have a lovely day Maria...I am off to the lake house for a week of R&R.

There you go, go crazy on that one.

That article is NOT peer reviewed or IS CREDIBLE....have you ever been to any university or college and heard of NONE credible articles? Anyone can write an article and it does not mean that it's true.

This article was probably written by a gastric bypass surgeon who is losing business to Lap Bands...lol...

GEE...if they are going to screw up with a false article they should AT LEAST SOUND CREDIBLE with the below statement.

Overall, 12 percent of patients in the Lap-Band group and 15 percent of patients in the gastric bypass group experienced complications. Patients who got gastric banding were more likely to have complications right after their surgeries, while Lap-Band patients were more likely to need a second operation. There were no deaths in either group.

Patients who got gastric banding were more likely to have complications right after their surgeries, while Lap-Band patients were more likely to need a second operation.

The above sentence does not make sensePatients who got gastric banding were more likely to have complications right after their surgeries...DID THE ARTICLE MEAN TO SAY GASTRIC BYPASS Patients were more likely to have complications right after surgery????

I have not needed a second operation going on 6 years, I don't abuse my band by frequent vomiting nor do I keep it too tight....I think as long as people don't do those things often they can keep it for life

As of to date...I've NEVER EVER heard of someone dying from band erosion, IN FACT, when the band migrates into the stomach, many people don't even know it, most don't have an urgent complication the only thing they notice is...is a lack of restriction, and MANY can go on to get a new band put in after their stomach heals after band erosion.

People need to ACCEPT the fact that the Lap Band is a very safe and effective tool for weight loss and maintenance FOR MANY that follow rules, I can understand the fact that some people may GET ANGRY that they have rearranged their gut, plumbing and bowels and STILL HAVE TO EAT RIGHT AND EXERCISE TO KEEP THEIR WEIGHT DOWN, this is why I got the band if I STILL HAVE TO DO THOSE SAME THINGS WITH THE BYPASS to keep my weight down.

lol, that was an article about a study published in the Archives of Surgery (Feb 2011) a monthly peer reviewed medical journal, published by the A.M.A.  by the Dr. Campos mentioned in the article who is NOT a gastric bypass surgeon.

Kinda blows your whole theory listed below out of the water huh??  back at you.

PLEASE don't expect anything rational, logical, educated or even articular from Naomi - she has many many issues, mostly around her fear of failing her beloved band.

Of course that article was published in a peer-reviewed and internationally respected journal, Archives of Surgery.  Of course the original quote came from the Reuter's reporting the results of the paper, which demonstrate SHOCKINGLY poor results for the widely advertised PRODUCT that is sold in conjunction with the surgery.  And boo-******g-hoo, the Reuter's editor missed a typo which any moron having a modicum of knowledge of bariatric surgery would have understood without blinking an eye, but which Na-Blow-Me tries to use as undermining the value of the PEER REVIEWED MEDICAL JOURNAL ARTICLE.

When you've got no facts on your side, pound your shoe.
