I've had my nutritious, delicious slim fast for breakfast.  It was ok but I tasted it for like 3 hours.  I've just had another great slim fast for lunch.  (And yes, this is sarcasm!)  I'm thinking around 2 pm I'm going to be ready for my sensible < 400 calorie meal!!  Can you even make a meal for < 400 calories??  Anyway, the next 2 weeks are going to be hell!!!  I think I can...I think I can...I think I can...

Does it have to be Slim Fast??  I'd like to recommend trying other protein drinks;  there are a lot of protein products now which taste much better.

Also, do your vitamins!

Good luck!

The diet book she gave me says Slim Fast but YUK!!  I have also ordered some Unjury online for after my surgery.  I had the worse time after my Lapband surgery finding a protein powder that I actually liked.  I know I tried 5 or 6.  Skim milk and carnation breakfast became my best friend then.  Any suggestions??

I think Syntrax Nectar products have a sampler of all 12 of their flavors.  They are water-based, and have everything from Lemon Tea or Fuzzy Navel to Cappucchino.  They aren't too expensive, if I remember correctly.  A good place to start....

I have used the Isopure Dutch Chocolate Low Carb since I first embarked on my journey, and I also keep the Vanilla on hand to mix with fresh or frozen fruit when I get tired of Chocolate.  (As if...)

The protein drinks really helped me to keep from being hun gry and I was able to sail through the pre-op stuff very easily.

Good luck!

I was given the option of Slim Fast, or Muscle Milk. Check to see how many grams of protein the Special K one has. I know that Ensure has 2 grams less than Slim Fast. I wish I could go back on the 2 week pre op diet!! I lost weight and WAS NOT EVER hungry..I am kinda struggling right now but I will get over this "bump in the road"...Good luck to you!

If you are struggling with hunger, why not try doing a small protein shake in the afternoon or evening as needed?  Dealing with the hunger can be the real difficulty in your process.  I found post-op that I lost the "hunger" problem, and that made my life much easier.

Good luck!

thank you for the suggestion. I guess part of the "problem" is..I am trying to be too much "by the book"..you know, 3 meals, no snacks (unless approved by nutritionist), and no grazing. I am doing better today. I go to see the doc Thursday so hopefully I will get some answers.

If you have a small meal (an 8-oz protein shake = a small meal) and you are able to stay with your resolve because you are not ravenous, then you can be much more successful instead of going crazy with hunger.

Tonya, I too had to use slimfast pre-op. I found that purchasing the powder rather than ready-mixed and making it myself with skim milk and sugar free flavoring syrups made a HUGE difference in how I tolerated them. See if you can try that.
