De-carbing

Why is it so hard to de-carb? I'm on my third day of the 5 day pouch test and the first 2 days I felt  AWFUL! not to mention that i was a total ***** to everyone around me. Why do carbs affect us like that? Today I'm eating eggs and tuna but eggs make me sick and usually dump! I can't wait until this is over and I hope it's worth it :~/

Because for most of us, carbs are our drug of choice.  We are addicts and getting off of carbs makes us miserable and makes us *****y and hard for others to be around.  We don't always have to face cigarettes, alcohol, or street drugs, but carbs are everywhere we turn.

I can't stand eggs either and refuse to eat them.  Decarbing can be done, but it is not easy.  I am sending a hug and quick prayer that you feel better.  Things can get better if you hang in there.  For me, most of the carb craving is gone by the end of two weeks.  But the compulsion has never left me completely and I can cave in quickly when exposed to temptation.

Send me a personal message if you want to talk about it.

 Hiya --

The 5DPT gets us back into ketosis (usually), which is the low-carb, moderate-protein way of eating that helped us start losing post-op in the first place.

This means your body is switching over from burning glycogen, to burning fat.  It is called Induction Flu, and will make you feel like cr@p.  If you can hang in there for another day or so, things will get much, much easier and you will feel much, much better!

BTW -- why are you eating eggs if they make you sick and dump?  Aren't there other choices?  You shouldn't eat stuff that makes you feel bad!

Thanks Mary C, I will definately message you! I appresiate your support!

Whackadoodle, I try eggs every so often because sometimes they settle ok. Most the time they don't and I used to love eggs w/ slasa and cheese! And I was trying to eat them because I didn't  really have any breakfast ideas for day three. Thanks for your support as well, I can always use it.

I won't pretend to know anything about the 5 day pouch test, but I do know about eating very low carb. The first few days, even up to the first two weeks, are tough while your body adjusts to burning ketones instead of glucose and all that jazz. After you get through that initial difficult period, you'll likely find your hunger lessens or even disappears, your energy increases, and you lose the strong cravings for carb-laden foods.

One lesson I've learned: you don't need to eat breakfast foods at breakfast! If eggs don't work out for you, try some rolled up sandwich meat and cheese, some chicken, some meaty chili with cheese and sour cream...

Also, if fat doesn't make you dump, then do NOT limit your fat intake, as fat will help keep you feeling more satisfied so you're less likely to turn to carbs (despite what many will try to tell you, fat is not evil, it does not make you fat, and it's not unhealthy when consumed without many carbs).
