No, you don't have to take the B12 but you can lose sensation in your fingers and toes as well as developing dementia. I'm kidding.... YES, you need B12, your body will not absorb it after this surgery. My father had the first GB surgery that they did in the 60's. Lots of those patients died very young because they didn't get enough vitamins. If that isn't enough to scare you go to enough support group meetings and you will see people that are young that look REALLY old and wrinkly, that's from not taking vitamins and getting enough protein. treat yourself nice, only you can

Don't know about "everyone," but I think it's most everyone. I have to take B12 shots once a month from now on. Dx

My surgeon has taught me how to give my own B-12 injections. Not bad!!! Gave myself my first unsupervised on last month. WHEW!!!! Number two coming up. YIKES!!!! Just kidding.
