X-Post: Major hair loss post WLS, my wig story

I have the full story at my blog: http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/secretagentwoman/blog/2011 /04/03/-17/

I thought that others stuggling with severe post-WLS hair loss would benefit. Honestly, especially with people like me who sufferred complications and so had a prolonged recovery time and malnutrition issues, it can get quite brutal.

Know that you are not alone, and that you CAN embrace the challenge. Cutting hair super short, looking into wigs, etc.

I hope you enjoy reading my journey, and of course, you must ADMIRE my gorgeous butt (and the hair too haha) because we are all photo ***** divas inside who want validation.

You're just a year post op?

Besides the fact that the wig is perfect - wow! - you may grow some hair back.

Yup, my original surgery was April 2010. The date in my profile was the surgery that fixed my original surgery, lol.

Thanks for posting this- I've been looking into wigs myself since I have thinning hair.. and last time I dropped 100+ lbs, I lost a lot, my "part" was several inches wide too.

It never came back 100%.

So, this time around, I'm going to play with some wigs. If you have any suggestions on online shops- please pass them on.. yours looks great!

I used wigs.com - but once you find a model/style you like, google that model name and/or number because it might be sold cheaper elsewhere. So far, though, wigs.com is only slightly more expensive. Stay away from Paula Young wigs, they seem to be cheap wigs for old ladies. ;)

By your coloring, you're a natural redhead?

I lost hair when I broke my arm in 2007 that lasted 18 months. I stopped the loss, but didn't really get it back.

Then, all this unending stress since Aug, and I'm losing it again or still or whatever.

My hair was a huge mop of Janis Joplin curly coarse hair til I had babies. Then it was normal for awhile. Too curly to be straight, too straight to be curly. Within a decade it was pretty thin, but I was enormous, so I went with the fat lady cut of the times. I noticed the thinness of my hair, but it was outweighed (in every WEIGH) by my body.

Now, it's baby fine (what happened to that gob I could barely brush?) and more straight than curly, but not enough to be straight.

My granddaughter lives in Spain, so I saw her in 2006, then again last summer. She's 7 then, so eyeballs my hair, and says to me, "Didn't your hair used to be red?" SCREAM! FREAK OUT! USED TO BE?

So, with my 4 strawberry blonde hairs disgused with gallons of "product", I'm getting by, but this wig is pretty close to my original color (I have a hair piece from the 70's). I just assumed I'd not be able to find something close to me. And then, I guess, it'd be WHICH me? LOL The red head or the USTA BE RED HEAD.

This color and style on you is GORGEOUS. Frames your face perfectly.

Is it hot to wear?

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

A little hot, but since I'm freezing all the time after losing 150 pounds of insulation, that's not so bad.

A bit itchy, though. :)

PS - not a natural redhead. I've been dying it since I was 16 and I ain't stopping now. I dyed my hair to match the wig so I hairs that stick out aren't a problem, they actually contribute to the illusion that this is real hair. I also dye my eyebrows. I was tempted to dye other parts but then my fiancee doesn't mind the mismatch, lol.

You look great, congrats!  I wore lots of wigs on my journey because I hate short hair and it bored me to tears, I would change wigs daily, no on knew what to expect or if I even had real hair.  Finally after 6 years and three surgeries my real hair is growing back and I retired my wigs.  Don't worry about people trying to guess, I gave them nothing to guess about when you wear bright blond one day and jet black the next it was quite obvious. Enjoy you look great!
So Blessed!
