Hi I have been crushing my meds getting ready for Aug 16 surgery. My problem is i can barely get it down because of the bitterness of course, The thing is i know if it is as touchy as i know it is i will never be able to swallow them with the new pouch. I have tried pudding, applesauce, peanut butter and tons of other things to mix it with but nothing works, My question is have you heard about something called Syrpalta that you mix with it to help with getting it down. I think it is a thick syrup but then is it full of sugar and i would not be able to use it. Believe it or not i'm pretty tuff and can handle pain or anything else real good but this is kicking my butt. How stupid am I Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer if you can. Mary Jo

Hey there Mary Jo, I know what you mean... I've had to crush up my meds since having surgery July 20th. Sorry, but I don't know how to make it any better. I've tried everything too. I'll be watching your post to see what people say. BTW I see that you are in Tacoma. Me too! Where do you live? I live on McKinley Street, at about 43rd. Do you live close to me? Joyce

Hey Mary Jo, I just crush mine, pour the powder on my tongue and rinse it down with a little water. Like a "BC Powder." I have found this far easier than mixing them with a liquid and then trying to drink it. Wishing you the best- Dx

you only have the issue with crushing the meds for a couple of weeks...try wrapping them in cream cheese....sort of make a pocket put the pill powder in the pocket put more cream cheese on top and seal around the edges and put all the way in the back of the mouth as far back as you can get it without gagging...the cream cheese melts pretty quick and after a couple of weeks the powder can be put into a capsule

Mary Jo, Syrpalta is glycerin, sucrose and water. You don't want to use that post-op. I used applesauce or yogurt for my pills. Your tastes will change and what tastes bad to you now maybe something that will work for you post-op. Believe me your tastes really do change. Try not to worry about it now. All the best on your upcoming surgery! Linda

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and obviously have to still crush my meds. I found that using about 1-2 teaspoons of Edys sugerfree triple chocolate works wonders! I tried applesauce, and 3 other carb smart ice creams and the Edys works the best, only 1 med do i still dread taking with the ice cream because the bitterness lasts for about 30 mins. But the other meds I take work great in the ice cream. Good luck finding what works for you

I crush mine and then mix it with Crystal Lite. I mix it in little one ounce cup and have another little cup filled with Crystal Lite. After taking the ones with the meds I take the chaser cup. I usually have to fill the cup again and mix it up to get the remaining residue and then follow with the chaser of Crystal Lite again. Hope this helps. Best of luck!!
