Good for you! I think quitting smoking was the hardest thing I ever did. I used the patch and that helped me immeasurably. I will pray for your strength. Good luck - you can do it! Judith

Congrats Linda!! Quitting is SO important and SUCH and accomplishment!! I just celebrated my 2 year Quit-aversary this month!!! I used the patch, but trust me, I ate and ate and ate....and I was a major ***** on wheels for a while too....eventually it all leveled out. Looks like you're pre-op...Personally I'd say to try to munch on healthy stuff, but the MAIN thing is to quit...but that's just my opinion...that's the way I did it, figured I'd worry about the weight later ... and I did but it was worth it!

Hi all you quiters and about to be quiters! I know everyone's experience is different, but I quit about 6 weeks ago and am doing great. Of course the first few days were rough, but I got through them and am soooo glad I didn't give up. Two things I did that really seemed to help. One: I used the nicotine patch -- it really helped with the 'about to rip someones head off' feelings. Two: I drank cranberry juice. My son said he had heard that it helps flush the nicotine out of the system so I thought 'what the heck' and I tried it and it really did seem to shorten the amount of time the physical withdrawl took. Good luck in whatever way you choose to quit. Just remember that even the bad days are days you will never have to go through again as long as you STAY quit. Kathi

I can't use any nicotine replacement ... the docs want the nicotine lvls in my blood lower. So, i'm winging it with feel good pills till i can flush the icky stuff out of my blood stream. Docs told me that the nicotine in my blood stream was just as bad from the patches, gums, etc as from the cigs even though the CO2 lvls in my blood would improve ...... so i'm a bit more grouchy ... all though the xannies are helping quite a bit .... haven't killed anyone today and only had 2 of the cherry cigarrellos (sp) from teh corner market. Sooooo, I know that if i only did 2 today i can do 0 tomorrow. Wishing the rest of you good luck in your battles.

Hi Linda, I know what your going through. After 35 years of smoking I quit cold turkey. The very day I had surgery.Yes I know that your supposed to quit before, but I just couldn't. Well I started praying, and I told my Doctor that I wanted to quit so badly but didn't have the intestinal fortitude to do it.So He made a deal with me,he said he would do the surgery if I went cold turkey, and went through withdrawals in the hospitol. He said I can have you cleaned out in 5 days.Well it was HELL.I went through the worst of it in 5 days, and believe it or not,it's been 2 months and I haven't wanted a smoke. In fact just to smell the stuff makes me quite ill.I had respiratory treatments every 4 hours after surgery, and by the time I discharged I was in pain from the DS,but I could breath. So know I'm and feeling very because I don't smell like an ashtray anymore. And the anger, well it did come home with me,for about 2 weeks I was a This all will pass.
