Did Someone Say Pyloric Valve?

While I love reading  research (and my husband does it professionally) I find it highly iritating that everything you seem to be posting requires sometype of fee to read and or access. Unless you are willing to pay to back up what you are posting of course. Unless you have full access to the complete article I suggest not posting links.

I am sorry that this information upsets you and does not answer your questions.  I am only willing to lead the horse to water at this time.  Again, I am truly sorry for the inconvenience my posts may caused you.

You miss understand me. Sorry, I'm trying to type fast and may not be clear (kids keep interuppting me. LOL). I very much enjoy reading and research. I just wish you'd find stuff with the full articles available to anyone. LOL. It's kind of like getting that phone call when your looking at having WLS and it's your neighbor who's second cousin's girlfriends ex-mother-in-laws great aunt's best friend died during WLS so you shouldn't do it. Unless you can back it up and explain WHO had it, Why they were having it, WHAT happened on the operation table, and What type of other medical problems where present, weight, age, physical abilities, etc. I'm really not intersted in the information. I do however love a well written, documented research paper.

Here is a full article link titled:

IS IT TIME TO BYPASS THE BYPASS?
SHOULD THE PYLORIC PRESERVATION
BECOME AN IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE
IN BARIATRIC SURGERY?

Sorry that article is very misleading. They ran the test on people who had SYMPTOMS. If you run tests on 36 people who complain of having symptoms of RH, then yeah, I'd expect most of them to have it. That's kind of like testing people who complain they aren't getting enough sleep at night and running tests and finding that the majority have insomnia. Now if they had taken 36 members of the general pool and tested all of them then maybe this article would have a little more credibility.

*GROANS*

This is just another thread about why you think your surgery is better than anyone else's. Its stupid and ridiculous and on the level with my kids tattle telling on one another and point fingers --- she did it, he did it --- Its B.S when my kids pull it and I find that fact that you ALWAYS have to shove your surgery at everyone and justify your surgery being better than all the others just to be plain annoying. If someone asks for information great, give it. That is what we are here for. I did not see this thread started by someone asking about it...you just started it to scream look at me - look at me!

3 of the 4 main WLS preserves the pylorus

I am sorry that your assumptions are that I am seeking personal attention.  This was in response to another thread.  I am merely bringing to attention for pre-ops to consider the importance keeping one's pyloric valve and to choose a surgery that does so.

But being the AW I am, I do have to admit, I really really love my pyloric valve.

The problem is that you are promoting the idea that keeing the pyloric valve would solve the problem of RH. Since those surgeries that KEEP the plyoric valve ALSO show RH, the Plyoric valve may NOT be the cause of RH. I would think if the problem was ONLY the plyoric valve then ONLY the RNY would have RH. Since both DS and VSG patients also report RH as a post operative problem, that would seem to disprove this theory.

I never said that, I am only posting links to outside information for pre-ops to come to their own conclusion.  Again, I am very sorry that my posts upset you and cause ill will.  Feel free to post outside links to studies that show their is no involvement with pylorus removal and early / late dumping.  Or if it makes you feel better you can even start you very own thread about it.

I also wanted to edit to clarify that my info speaks of dumping/RH and it's relation to pyloric removal/disfunction specifically not to other causes.  Feel free to share those here.

oh, no will ill felt. However, since the outline that you gave said and I quote

This study will compare glucose and simple carbohydrate sensitivity. The hypothesis is that rapid emptying of high-glycemic index foods after Roux-En-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) causes reactive hypoglycemia. It is believed that the controlled release offered by an intact pylorus will be advantageous for long term results in bariatric surgery.

and that

I also wanted to edit to clarify that my info speaks of dumping/RH and it's relation to pyloric removal/disfunction specifically not to other causes.

Since at least one DSer who posted today said that they had RH after DS then the above statements are no longer true.

I also think if you are going to post "research" abtracts then you should be able to post the whole article/paper intact. Unfortunately abstracts can be misleading, if you want us to do research and make up our own minds (which I believe EVERYONE should do) and you are trying to make a point in WHY the pyloric valve is so important you need to be able to quote, post and defend your papers and links.

I also don't see the point in starting a second thread to the same topic. Why start more threads when one does just as well.
