Did Someone Say Pyloric Valve?
I'm sorry the abstract did not answer your questions. The entire article can be found here in the Surgical Endoscopy journal for a fee.

Oops, sorry that is NOT one of the professional medical journals we have access to. I'll have my hubby access the professional journals we do have access to and see if there is any thing referencing the paper. I would however suggest that if you don't have access to the full paper and can't reference it, not using it as a "source" of information. Unfortunately many things get published that are so poorly done that they really have no business being used as a reference or source.

This study will compare glucose and simple carbohydrate sensitivity. The hypothesis is that rapid emptying of high-glycemic index foods after Roux-En-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) causes reactive hypoglycemia. It is believed that the controlled release offered by an intact pylorus will be advantageous for long term results in bariatric surgery. This study can provide a scientific rationale, in a short duration of time, for why pylorus sparing surgery, such as the sleeve gastrectomy or duodenal switch, may offer therapeutic advantages, as compared to non-pyloric sparing surgery, namely the gastric bypass.

another overview:
We believe that rapid emptying of the non valved gastric bypass leads to reactive hypoglycemia and weight gain after the first year. It is our contention that preservation of the pyloric valve, the thinest area of the gi tract, will provide for better long term outcomes. This operation does not need to be severely malabsorbtive. We conclude that pyloric preservation will become a standard priciple in bariatric surgery in years to come.
