Ms Batts - Hope this helps you with your past experience from school.  Know that God did not turn his back on you.  You allowed people of this world to allow you to turn your back on God.  That is why I think you had a "feeling" of God but never really ever knew him.

Why is it that someone could be radically converted (or seemingly so) and passionate about their new faith and then, without warning, just give up? They seemed to have had the most amazing conversion ever, but all of a sudden, they just bailed and walked away. How could that happen?

I would suggest that person never was converted to begin with. It is not about the emotion of a moment; it is about the test of time. If a person is a real Christian, he or she will continue on—though not flawlessly and not perfectly. It is even possible for a person who is a Christian to go astray for a time.

But if someone is a real believer, he or she always will come back. If they walk away and never return, they never were believers. As 1 John 2:19 says, "They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us."

It may be that they built their faith on an emotional experience, and there can be emotion in conversion, though not always. But you can't build your life on emotion, because emotions come and go. A person who expects every day of the Christian life to be an emotional rush will be disappointed when they wake up some morning and feel nothing. That is when it is time to start growing up and walking by faith, not by feelings.

Romans 1:17 says, "The just shall live by faith." Yet some build their entire relationship with God on emotional experience, and when the emotions are not there, they give up. They built their life on the wrong foundation.

I allowed people to allow me? ***** you're crazier than usual today. And you're wrong about me having a "feeling" of God---what I had was a desire to believe, but I just couldn't. There were too many things that just didn't make sense.

I see you're kinda-sorta giving credit for the work you copy and paste. Keep working on that---you may conquer the sin of stealing one day after all.

 With all that is going on around the world, do you really think Jesus cares?? I just want to know if it comes in any other colors?? After all the word is the word, because if it wasn't then it would be something else.

But serious question here, who or what are you defending? Is it your god? Cause a god should be able to withstand a little ribbing. I'm thinking a real god wouldn't be pissed at a harmless joke.

Why would you defend your beliefs here on an atheist thread? It's not like you are going to change anyone's mind or get us to suddenly see things the way you do so why come in here shouting? Why would you assume that we care what you believe or that we would make any effort to respect the beliefs of a semi-literate, shouting, windbag? 

If we could go even a month without hearing from some foaming at the mouth fundie idiot I bet most of us would quit reading these posts. But as long as you bible thumpers continue to show up uninvited, we'll be here.
