Hey everyone I'm 10months post-op and crave tuna everyday and pickles all day everyday. I dont eat pickles everyday, but eat tuna for breakfast' lunch, and dinner. Is this safe to do or what????? I don't crave any other meat, but tuna. I do like other meat, but thats all I think about. I think I saw on Dateline or 20/20 that, you shouldn't consume to much tuna in a weeks time, because it was unsafe. Is that true of what they were saying???? I'm not sure of what kind of tuna because I heard something about that Albracore tuna. I don't know if thats what they were talking about. Like I said and other days all I want is a pickle. Please tell me you all whats wrong? Does this show that I'm lacking something in my body????? For me to have this type craving, no I not pregnant! Please respond. Thanx

Sorry I dont have much advice....but as I've stated a few times today..ha ha...all I really want to eat (and have wanted to eat for like 4 months straight now) is CHEESE!!! So having a craving for the same food, I personally dont see anything wrong with it. I havent heard anything bad about Tuna though....

i'm no tuna expert, but i'm pretty sure you are fine. my son is in the navy and has me send him care packages that consist of TUNA, TUNA, TUNA, AND MORE TUNA. it's all he eats when his ship is at sea (contrary to popular belief, navy food sucks) - that kid is thin and very muscular. he says "tuna does a body good"! as far as the pickles go... hey, we are girls - we love pickles... just drink extra water on your "pickle days". I'll be interested to hear your responses to this, because I have had the exact sam craving! I've been eating tuna for weeks now everyday for lunch, and I put relish in with it to satisfy my pickle craving. I put tuna on low carb wraps, tuna on Atkins Crunchers, whatever I can find to keep my carbs low and protein high. Am I going to turn into a tuna fish? I don't know what's up!

I wouldn't worry about it. Bariatric patients don't eat that much as it is. They are worried about trace elements in the tuna. Particularly mercury and or lead. This shouldn't be an issue. If you were to eat ten cans a day, it may be a problem. I was going to ask if you are pregnant, but I just read the last part!

Hello Paula, My mom worked with a man who ate tuna for lunch every day for years, and ended up in the hospital for mercury (sp?) poisining. He was out of work for a couple of weeks. The mercury built up in his body over time. It can happen, if you keep eating it like that. Good luck! (Atleast you are not addicted to something terrible!) ~Dianna~

I have these cravings also!!! For the past six weeks I have been eating imitation crab meat like it is going out of style. I eat it for almost every meal. Before that it was turkey pot pies and before that it was tuna on a baked potato. So I think your cravings are pretty normal. Enjoy it while it lasts and at least you are craving something that is good for you. Melanie-119lbs (6months)

I am having a thing for pickles as well. Especially ones soaked in jalapeno juice. Don't ask me why, maybe by body is needing salt. Maybe yours too? I am only suppose to have three meals a day with no snack so I have been eating a very small bite with one meal a day. Go easy on the tuna, you never know what the mercury will do.
