Her reply was not nasty or snarky.  You made strong remarks from hearsay without any actual documentation to back up your 'facts'.   *facepalm*

The original post was saying those characteristics should deter people from getting the DS. It did not say that everyone else has those qualities.

It's not nasty, it's honest and responsible. Yes, it was delivered coarsely, but it's your life. It's not always roses and sugar, and if someone decides to take on their doctor and their insurance company and to fight for the DS, they should have the strength to withstand a few sobering caveats in a post.

I'd be interested in seeing the Swedish facts.

Tack så mycket.

I wish I did have them.  I don't.  I am only going by what my doctor showed me in his office.  I didn't attend a big seminar, as I am in the learning Swedish stage, so we sat in an office with his PowerPoint on his computer.  I will ask him for links on my next visit.

And as someone said above, WLS in general isn't performed as often here, so the statistics may not be as supported as they are in the US.  There was a HUGE amount of money set aside for the first time for WLS last year in Sweden.  Before that point, the wait was about 3 years.  Now it's only about 3 months.
Pretty pretty please, don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f*ckin' perfect.

I don't care what surgery people choose and I even cheer them on when they choose NOT to have surgery. That's a personal choice.

However I think there is an undeniable TONE of condescension in this writing. The words chosen, such as calling people "weak, passive, sheep-like, " or "self loathing" . This is inflammatory condescending and creepy. What is even more creepy is that people think that anyone taking offense to this overal condescending tone is just defending their surgery choice. This isn't about surgery it is about not calling people stupid spineless sheep or calling them "nutjobs". It's about treating people with some dignity and respect and kindness, not selling surgeries. Can't simple facts speak for themselves? I am just left wondering why you chose to use words like that.

Has weight loss surgery pushing become like a cult now? Is this like joining the moonies, where we all have to be brainwashed and indoctrinated into specific stuff and take sides? What about just respecting others freedom to choose what is best for them and presenting the simple facts without inflammatory, condescending, insulting tones?  What if I were "selling" you a new product and just told you that my product isn't for you if you are a passive stupid sheep? Would you really buy it?  WTF

You've already had your surgery, she was not speaking to you.

SHE WAS SPEAKING TO PRE-OPS!

I know some of you post ops don't like what Diana has to say, it's not the surgery you had, it's not what you live with everyday, good or bad.  She doesn't care what surgery you HAD or will have.  She wants everyone to know the God's honest hardcore truth.  Call it tough love if you will.

If I was going to sit down with my sister/mother/daughter/best friend and present her the facts on surgeries, I would deliver the same message about the DS that Diana did.  I would not sugar coat it.  I would be blunt as hell to get the point across.  The DS is not for wussies, and if one is diligent, the pay off is FAN-******G-TASTIC. And I'm not just talking about the weight loss factor.

DSrs are HIGHLY educated on their surgery.
We keep Lab Rat Data:
www.epursimuove.com/ds/

We share lists of the best use of vitamins and we share our lab reports, like report cards. We truly are geeked out about our surgery.

WE DON'T JUST THINK DS IS THE BEST SURGERY, WE KNOW IT'S THE MOST EFFECTIVE.

So yeah, it can come across as crass to some, but I would drag my sister by the hair out of a burning building if that's what it took.

Perhaps I should have added, "If you have poor reading comprehension skills, the DS is not for you."

I didn't call anyone anything.  My statements were phrased as "IF you demonstrate X behavior, the DS is not for you."  Is it a co-incidence so many people read that as an attack on themselves?  Probably not - it's called projection, and these people are so afraid they made a wrong choice, they chose to feel attacked by reading a post that was (1) specifically not aimed at them - read the title and (2) didn't say a damned thing they think it said.

It is also interesting that the rebuttals are primarily personal attacks, because they can't refute the FACTS.

And here's another newsflash for you - I wrote the post in this style DELIBERATELY to irritate people, because it causes people to uncontrollably write stupid things to attack (mostly to attack me, because they can't refute what I said) and it gets lots of pre-ops to read the posts.  Mission accomplished.

Nevermind I'm done. I'm going to go exercise then spend a beautiful Saturday with my family. I don't want to waste the day with my face stuck to the computer. If I don't respond I didn't block you I'm just not here. My reading comprehension is fine by the way. I still think you could say what needs said without all that. I have some swamp land in Florida I want to sell you, and it isn't for you if you are too stupid to buy it...

peace out

When I was preop looking in to RNY (never heard of the DS), A Ds'r send me a private message about the DS and providing much of the info Diana has provided above.  That same day there also was a "surgery war" going on which I had read.  I remember getting that private message and being PISSED.  How dare someone tell me their surgery is superior!?  How dare you make me feel bad because my insurance won't pay for the DS?

BUT, I was intrigued and started reading on the DS board.  I fought my insurance and traveled 5 hours to get my DS.  I'm only 3 months out and already in love with my DS.  I KNOW that I will get to my goal and stay there!
